Graphic Option Settings' Performance Impact

#1 Post by LT4650 » 15 Oct 2021 00:02

Are there any good resources that document the impact of various items under the advanced graphics options? I've tried to some targeted searches and just general browsing through the forums but haven't found anything specific.

Background:
I am running triple 27" Dell S2716DG monitors in NVidia Surround with a combined 7680x1440 resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate. My CPU is an overclocked Intel i7-8086K and my GPU is an EVGA RTX 2080 ti FTW3 Hybrid. I keep FPS capped at 141 in NVidia Control Panel so as to stay within the monitors' GSync range. Currently, I am running on the Low Simple graphics preset as the Medium preset dropped fps too much. I'm hoping there are some targeted items in the advanced options that can be increased without much FPS impact, and without having to rely on trial-and-error to find them.

truck-simulator.fandom.com/wiki/Graphics_Options aims to be such a resource, but so far lacks content. If you discover useful info, it'd be great if you could add it to the wiki!

Mirrors are one of the biggest impacts, so start with other items.

Mirror distance, SSAO and scaling are the biggest performance killers. Other options, not that much, at least not for a RTX 2080 Ti.

Thanks for the replies. Minor correction to my original post in that I'm currently running Medium preset; its the High preset that drops FPS too much. I documented the detail settings for each of the presets. I know in iRacing that mirrors and shadows are the major FPS hits. This gives me at least a reference point to start fine tuning.

Turn off SSAO for sure, its a FPS eater without that much of a visual impact. Also what scaling are you using?

Currently I'm testing 150% scaling. Low-FPS I'm seeing with settings (see attached) seems to be mid-90's at night in cities. 200% was too impactful.

You should try everything on high and turn off SSAO and put scaling at 125.

Hey LT4650, nice research for that table of presets! I hope you don't mind I added it to that wiki page, along with some other info from the forums.

I don't mind.

My biggest issue now is the AI vehicles' wheel covers don't rotate until being very close. So, I am dealing with cars sliding across the road. This triggers some motion sickness.
