Game window offset and taskbar showing after crash

#1 Post by Woody_033 » 25 Oct 2021 04:20

Yesterday morning, 10 minutes after midnight, I got a black screen and the game crashed.
There was no crash report for this event, but there was a Windows event.

Event Manager.txt

This is the game log with a series of dx11 errors at the end....

After reading some of the posts on the forum about some similar crashes... I did the following.
I ripped the drivers and re-installed the latest NVIDIA drivers.
Ran Superposition, FurMark and 3DMark Stress Test to make sure there was no issue with the graphics card

When I started the game, the screen is off-center and the taskbar shows at the bottom. If you move your pointer towards the bottom of the screen, you can actually click on the Icons and start programs.

I have tried:
  • Verifying the ATS files
  • Re-installing ATS
  • Re-naming my Doc/ATS folder
  • Tried different settings in NVIDIA control panel
  • DxDiag reports no errors or abnormalities
  • Using my VG275 or VP279 as primary monitor makes no difference.
  • Hiding the taskbar shifts the window down, but if you move the cursor down, the bar pops up :?
  • Doing a system restore prior to re-installing the NVIDIA drivers fixes the off-center, but you are back at square #1 and you end up with the same off-center screen

Please advise...

no crash log was generated because "game did not crashed."
more like gpu drivers crashed.
see the faulting module path in event log. its d3d11.dll
that is part for video drivers package.

this may happen.
if it happens more often. you can switch to opengl.
or change drivers version.

Hello Tom, and thank you for your response :-)
Regarding the window being offset and the taskbar being being clickable, any suggestion?

This is the game starting with OpenGL, same as with DX11

no idea what can cause this. it will be some changes in config files on an settings forced via video drivers options for example.

you can rename game folder in documents.
this will make the game run for "1st" time and reset all to default. and create all files in default state.
if it will fix the problem then it was an undesirable edit in config files.
if not then i would expect to be an outside of game factor causing this.

do not delete your original folder. there are your profiles etc.
you can copy profiles later if it will helps.
or delete new folder and rename back old one.

I tried this... renaming the folders and starting, but same results.
The only thing that changed before and after the crash, was that I re-installed the drivers for the graphics card.
I had updated the drivers earlier in the week and was using 496.13
