Weight stations: Entry, "Empty" lane, and Exit
Weight stations: Entry, "Empty" lane, and Exit
Hi all,
how is the "empty" lane at weigh stations supposed to be used IRL? I just was pulled in with an unloaded trailer (first time for me) and was fined for using the "empty" lane. I currently play with adjusted income factor and could really have done without that particular fine.
I've found a mention of this behavior in the bugs forums, but inexplicably it was labelled "not a bug" by the reporter. I'd say this clearly is an issue that should be fixed eventually, but perhaps I'm misunderstanding how American weigh stations work?
BTW, there's also an acknowledged issue regarding loaded AI trailers that go through the "Empty" lane. I don't think this issue has been addressed—or has it? I do hope those guys are getting fined, too!

This issue was reported in the very QA # in your post. Nothing further for anyone on the forums to do at this point. SCS is aware.

Re: Weight stations: "Empty" lane
Empty lane is for bobtails and empty trucks in real life. No need to weigh an empty truck.
Re: Weight stations: "Empty" lane
Currently the game doesn't support dynamic trigger placement or rolling trigger activation AFAIK, that's why even empty you should pass on the loaded lane.
Also have in mind game initially had no possibility for empty trailers as Trailer Ownership only came later, but for the sake of reality SCS modeled the weighting stations as accurate as they could with the empty lane included for future proofing them in the case game evolve to support that.
So, let's bend the rules here for a moment until they figure it out

@nautofon Not a problem to help out. That is what we do.
Re: Weight stations: "Empty" lane
@Larry71490 Just to clarify, the empty lane would be used for safety inspections, paperwork, hours etc.?

No as a bypass.
Re: Weight stations: "Empty" lane
Until the stations are fully functional, I just take the fine. It won't hurt the bank one bit.
My post are only thoughts and ideas. Don't assume it makes ATS.

Re: Weight stations: Entry, "Empty" lane, and Exit
A follow up: How would I react in real life when I get a green signal at one of those weigh stations that say "ALL trucks next right" (see pic). In the game I just stay on the highway—it doesn't result in a fine, so I figure that's all right. But is this actually how it's done?
Also, just to make sure: I never have the right of way when I exit a weight station—right? Because the AI tends to behave as if I did. (But then, it does that in many other places as well, so I guess it's just another one of those AI issues.)
