Parking Doubles - Is it Possible?

I activated g_simple_parking_doubles in the config so I could take a stab at the more advanced parking options, but I didn't know it was impossible xD. Is there a trick? How do they park these in real life?

I mean the receiving manager at Eddy's sure has a sense of humor wanting me to park it there xD.

I struggle to get 53 footers in that spot, especially with the other trailer there, so normally I only take 45 footers to Eddy's. I took a double this time thinking there's no way they'd make me try to park it there lol. But ok, I'm up for a challenge.

I think it was 2 hours later (game time) when I got it this far.

Don't let the image fool you though. It looks like I'm close, but to get it in this position I had to take a more unconventional approach. Some brute force was involved. Maybe an uncoupling or 2 to "ram" the back tires :D . I wanted that 270xp. My truck was at 17% damage and the trailer 5% before I finally gave up, and decided to come here to rant instead, and maybe get some tips. Thinking maybe I'm missing something. From what I can tell, the entire problem lays with that dolly in the middle. That thing has a mind of it's own. No matter which way I slice that front trailer, the dolly will go wherever. Is there a way to prevent the dolly from turning? It's be so much easier then. Lock the 5th wheel or something? Trailer brakes? I assume there's no way to disconnect the back trailer and park it separately?

I've managed to park a double before, as seen here.

But that took about 1.5 game hours too and I didn't have a 90 degree corner to negotiate. I got the success indication sooner, but again the dolly was crooked and my OCD doesn't let me quit a parking job until the trailer is in straight xD. No brute force required on this one, just a lot of patience and inching back/forth. The 1.5 hours isn't worth the 270xp though. I could be on my way with the next 3000xp load instead.

Also, this 68 foot lowboy was much easier to park because the dolly (jeep?) doesn't have a mind of it's own with this trailer. It turns the way it should turn when backing up.

In fact I enjoyed parking that bad boy. Didn't take long. Maybe because it didn't have the trailing 3 axle dolly? I heard those are impossible to park too. I'll have to grab one of those 112 foot 9 axle monsters and find out haha. Wait, those are escort deliveries so there probably isn't a parking dialog. Bummer.

Short answer, outside of a few gifted people, not really.

Long answer, B-Trains and other configurations that only have two pivot points are fairly straight forward, the exact configuration can make them easier or more difficult. With 3 pivot points like an A-Train, Rocky Mountain Double or Turnpike doubles, it becomes exponentially more difficult. If you have a decent amount of stinger on the lead trailer and a fairly long drawbar on the dolly, it may become more possible, but typical US configurations, you might as well forget about it.
How do they park these in real life?
One at a time. You can't load/unload the lead trailer if you back them both up to the same dock ;)

I'll only try to park doubles from now on if the dock is roomie enough. With enough practice maybe I can climb up into that gifted category haha. I was biting off more than I could chew with that Eddy's job. Other than the lowboy above, I haven't tried to park any other kind of articulated configuration yet. I haven't even seen a turnpike double yet. I saw that you can buy them, but I've never seen them offered at the freight market. And I imagine a RM double will be just as impossible as a regular double. I can see why SCS has that parking option disabled by default xD. Can't wait to try and dock a triple bahahaha.

I figured as much, but I imagine they have to park them sometimes.

At least one of Turnpike Double/RM Double is only available as owned trailers and will never appear in other markets.

i like that idea... but with the TP doubles at some smaller locations its hard to park it without that advanced parking option as the trailer would go outside the fench... but i would like to see this implemented in the game/sim as in reallife we have to back it up aswell as the warehouse workers dont come outside and handle the pallets off dock one by one :P
but to be realistic.. when the 2nd trailer doesnt have the option to have doors on the front of the trailer to get easy access into the 1st trailer there needs to be an option to unhook the 2nd trailer and park the 1st trailer at another loading dock...
like it was suggested at the idea for rigid trucks with swapbodies

In New Zealand we used to have a lot of A-train trucks years ago, reverse parking them was very tricky, you had to be fast to react when chasing the trailer to get it to go where you wanted. Nowadays we most have B-trains and Truck n Trailers, I drive a truck and trailer for the local Dairy Industry. They are so much easier to reverse except between the two you turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction when chasing the trailer between the B-Train and Truck n Trailer.

@enmei I think that's pretty cool you call them all the proper names in NZ instead of "B-doubles" and "tandems" ;) . I don't get what you mean by a B-train and truck and trailer needing opposite steering input though, they both have two pivot points and require the same general input. I do agree truck and trailer is much easier than B-trains because of the length of the dolly being shorter and it's stinger-steered off the truck so it reacts fast to input changes.

I refer to the chasing the rear trailer and getting it to where you want it to go, With the truck n trailer unit for the trailer to go left you will push the back of the truck out to the right. But on the B-train you have a trailer between the tractor unit and the rear trailer to push the rear trailer to the left you need to push the tractor unit to the left and in doing so pushes the front trailer to the right as you would be doing with the truck n trailer. that's what I meant be the opposite direction.

after months of constant trying I can park the heavy trailer with the condition that it does not have a spreader attached :lol: I also succeeded to park a double trailer once but I do not remember what type it was. I had enough space ahead so I placed the truck exactly in line with the parking space then slowly backwards with constant low turning left and right of the steering wheel. in this way I did not let the dolly turning excessively in one direction and when that happened I moved a bit forward to align the dolly and then start again the same maneuver until the end... since this takes a lot of time, I gave up on trying a 2nd time :lol:
glad to know that real drivers park these doubles/triple trailers one by one :D

Reversing those trailer sets around a 90deg corner (like at Eddy's Market) is not impossible. What makes it impossible in that scenario is the lack of distance between the parking 'bay' and the fence at the front of the property.
Since SCS introduced owned trailers, you can purchase one and 'free roam' around, attempting to reverse that trailer set into parking lots, rest areas, etc
