Computer Memory
Hi all, I have a very old PC and its running 8gb memory. ATS does run smooth but here and there there are moments of pauses, sometimes even like 3-5 seconds. Then its back to smooth game play. If I get 16gb total memory that maxes out the mobo, will those issues go away? Someone was telling me that having only 8gb was the issue.
I also run Geforce GTX 970

Re: Computer Memory
8 gig is a bit light these days, does the hard drive light flash when it's having pauses? Might be using swap.
Re: Computer Memory
I have 8GB too. I don't even shut down my web browser or any other program while running a fairly modded ETS 2, and I got no such problem. If you don't use an insane amount of mods, 8GB should be enough.

Re: Computer Memory
Well, of course you could try without mods and see if the problem persists. If so, it is not a memory problem. But if not, you still don't know if it is about too much (or too big) mods, or caused by the behaviour of a specific mod.
Maybe more memory would solve it, maybe not. I can't offer advice.

Re: Computer Memory
Before I upgraded, I used to game with 8gb's of DDR3 with a GTX 970 and I never had stuttering issues so I doubt its because of your ram, even then ATS never used all my 8gb's while playing. Are you running on a Harddisk? I've seen 13 year old computers get major speed boost just by upgrading to a solid state drive.

Ok...I do have a SSD drive and have noticed that those stutters have gone away now running on 16GB of memory...but I have also overclocked my 970 just a tad

Re: Computer Memory
I average around high 60c with MSI Afterburner, I have my clock 1430Mhz and memory 3855Mhz. That seems to be most stable with ATS, since Ive been dropping the settings on the card with crashes here and there

Re: Computer Memory
8 Gb is fine, had this amount of memory from the ETS2 release, later with promods
Extra mem was added recently, but it didn't make any noticeable change
