change backup speed on default tractors?
change backup speed on default tractors?
I mostly own and operate Freightliner Cascadias and I'm finding that the backup speed of 2mph is just too fast when I'm trying to line-up the trailer.
Is there a way I can change that or is does it require a modded truck?

Re: change backup speed on default tractors?
It might vary by transmission, have you tried an 18 speed?
Re: change backup speed on default tractors?
Thanks Grizzly!
That could be it because I thought I've driven some trucks that were 1mph. Most of my trucks are sleepers with 18 speed transmissions. I just decided that, as the owner, I don't want to travel as much so I purchased a day cab with a 12 speed to do short hauls which gives me more backup practice time. I'll give the 18 speed a try and see. If that doesn't work, I may try some other makes as well.
Thanks again.

Okay, I tried an 18-speed transmission on another Freightliner Cascadia (sleeper with 600hp engine) but the default speed with foot off of the accelerator is still 2mph. Then, I tried a Volvo VNL plus an International, and the default backup speed for both is 1mph...ideal!!! So, it must be specific to the Freightliner (make) in the game.
Re: change backup speed on default tractors?
You do know that the pedal to the left of the accelerator can slow the vehicle down when backing.....

If in doubt stop the vehicle

Yeah, I do brake to slow down when I'm getting very close to the final alignment but I start my back up a very long distance back to give myself time to adjust the trailer trajectory. I want to go slow from a long distance but not keep starting and stopping which is what happens when I tap the brake pedal even slightly. The 1mph default speed is the perfect speed for a newbie like me! Maybe someday, I'll be able to back up like a pro.
Re: change backup speed on default tractors?
I'll give you a hint....line up the rear tires of your truck with the wheels of any trailer. The wheels will always be in alignment with the truck if you are pulling it straight or if you are reversing straight. Do this, and you never have to worry about the 5th wheel or any other part of the truck. Tires to Tires is all you need. With more practice, you'll find that speed isn't an issue. Most people feather the accelerator. Check your deadzones. You should be able to give it enough gas to get it going then coast into the trailer.
