I'm also annoyed when the mountains build up during the drive

Yes, this is very annoying and should be fixed asap

Petition for Distant Mountains

#1 Post by Tirol » 04 May 2018 09:34

The games need distant mountains, it just looks unrealistic when the mountains are building up and going down while driving.

I really hate scenery popping into view.

Well, it is next to impossible to properly do mountain vistas with a visible range of 1420 meters. That's the distance I measured in ETS 2, from driver to main object node of a "far" object. It is overkill to plan ahead landscapes in a way that every popping object is covered by a nearer one.

Recently SCS has introduced a special handling for "far models", but this you can use for some few simplest models only, not for true landscaping.

I have avoided many regions of the map since years now, as I can't stand it anymore.

Everyone hates popping up scenery. It's not hard to guess SCS hates it too. But if they didn't do it as it should this probably means it cannot be done without a hefty performance hit.

Why? That's a legitimate wish, not just mine.

The Train Simulator from DTG also uses distant mountains and it works there without any loss of performance. The engine of the Train Simulator is already getting old. Your argument does not count.

a petition wont do anything, thats no.1

2. no one cares about some shity Train Sim here, SCS Engine is still baes on DX9 and you can only do so much with it, your Train game doesnt have to calculate weather, AI, job markets, water expanses or a huge map where you can (most of the time) drive freely

you are ALWAYS compare apples with oranges, SCS ETS2/ATS (semi open World) with a Train Sim Game (corridor Gameplay)

The Train Simulator is also based on DirectX9 and the Kuju engine is similar in age to the Prism3D engine.

Also in the Train Simulator there are different Weather Settings and also AI trains.

The job market is so simple in ETS that it does not require much processing power.

That remains the same, even the Train Simulator renders only the visible area, but also the distant mountains.
