We're not...
I'm confused on where everyone is misreading everything I say, no matter how I explain it.

You are ...
Otherwise you'd make a mess of everything
It's like a model going faster than it should according to it's scale
If the distance is 20 miles according to the 1:20 scale, the distance is 20 miles, not 1 mile or anything elsebobgrey1997 wrote: ↑12 Jul 2021 05:34 A job from one of this road to the other would not be a 20 mile job, but rather a 1 mile job. The per-mile payouts would need to be adjusted to match.

Uh, that's not how the scale works...
The 20 miles is NOT scale miles, it is real-world miles.
If 2 cities in reality are 20 miles apart, they will only be about 1 mile apart in-game. So, for a sign to say 1 mile in-game would be accurate.

According to scale the cities are 20 miles a part in game, don't add non scale measurements to the equation
If you change the distance both the driving speed and how the time behaves should also be altered to a degree

^ this. Such a change would turn it into a Toy Truck Simulator, inhabiting a 1:1 scale of a 1:20 model of USA map.

The map is a 1:20 model...
And no, the cities are not 20 miles apart according to the scale, but rather according to reality.

Re: Should miles be added to the distance signs?
the cities are still 20 miles apart, the scale only tells the user that the map is schrinkend, internal the game still calculates with 1:1 distance for the odometer and all jobs, ore else 1800 mile journeys wouldn't be possible, so scaled down distances shouldnt be used at all on signs or it would be the same with the 1 mile signs to exit, it says 1 mile but the odometer says 10 and this is nonsense

Ah, someone finally understands my point!xXCARL1992Xx wrote: ↑12 Jul 2021 20:28 so scaled down distances shouldnt be used at all on signs or it would be the same with the 1 mile signs to exit, it says 1 mile but the odometer says 10 and this is nonsense
This is why I suggested making ALL distance based systems off of the in-game scale, not the real-world area. This way, the odometer would only read 1 mile between that sign and the exit, for example.
If people simply can't wrap their mind around what a scale is, then a solution would be use real-word distances on everything, including those exit signs. This would also pose an oddity, though, as those signs would say something along the lines of 20 miles, which simply doesn't happen.
See this post for an example of what this would look like. It is doable, and is far easier to achieve than my idea, and would be better than the current conflict in distances. As such, I would personally be fine with it, but I tried to come up with something most others might prefer. Guess that didn't work.

Re: Should miles be added to the distance signs?
you totally missed the point of my post, i never agreed 100% with you, what i said is SCS should use real world values for ONLY these signs and not touch the exit ones, because they dont make sense if the distance is bigger (10 miles) but also are nonsense if they are actually, physically, placed 1 mile before the exit, the distance signs should use the values they have in real world, or the approximate value from sign placement to city center according to the truck odometer, but they should NOT use the scaled values the map is build on (5 scaled down miles instead of 100 real miles)
and they sure as hell should not touch the scale, we already have 2 scale differences in the game between cities and the rest of the map, we dont need a 3rd one just so exit signs fit into it and mess up the time more

Re: Should miles be added to the distance signs?
Huh. I see. You said it was nonsense that the sign says 1 mile while the odometer says 10 miles, yet you then say it should stay that way? That's what got me.
Even if they do use the real distances, which would screw with immersion quite a bit, it would still be infinitely better than the current, just horribly awful useless sign we have now.
Honestly, as long as we get distances on a DISTANCE sign, I really don't care what model the distances are based on. I just want the numbers, and it seems 116 others do as well so far.
