Button/key combinations for hotkeys? More support for controllers!

I noticed in the game settings under keys and buttons that you can't assign key combinations. Why is this? Most PC games allow for the functionality to assign CTRL + some button to a function or SHIFT + button, ALT + button, or CRTL + ALT + button, etc...

I play with a the current gen Xbox controller, and you simply cannot map all the core functions of your truck to the standard 16 button, twin-stick, dual-trigger controller. At least not all the bells and whistles you'd like to have for driving.

I have the basics down for the following:

Left stick axis: steering
Right stick axis: camera
Left trigger: brake axis
Right trigger: throttle axis

Left bumper: left signal
Right bumper: right signal

Left stick button: high beams
Right stick button: automatic/standard gearbox toggle

DPad: cruise control operations

X: shift up
A: shift down
Y: cockpit cam
B: chase cam


Functions I'd like to have that are missing:
Clutch axis
Engine brake toggle
Engine brake increase
Engine brake decrease
Retarder toggle
Retarder increase
Retarder decrease
Trailer brake

Right now I currently have auto enabled for engine braking and retarder, but I don't like the way those automatic functions feels. It makes my braking too powerful when I just want to slow down gently, or not powerful enough for stopping without it.


If I could assign button combinations, this would be my ideal setup:

Left trigger: clutch axis
Right trigger: throttle axis
X + Right trigger: brake axis

DPad: Lights and wipers
A + DPad: cruise control functions
X + DPad: engine brake functions
B + DPad: retarder functions and trailer brake
Y + DPad: Shift up/down, cockpit cam, chase cam


If doing that with an Xbox controller doesn't seem doable, then at the very least make this possble with CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT like most PC games already do.
Then I would just map CTRL, ALT, and SHIFT to my controller with third-party software and carry on from there.

Do you mean the "Chorded" activator under Steam Input? I tried messing aorund with this and it doesn't seem to recognize the fact that I have an Xbox One controller. The drop-down for the choarded activator presents button mappings for a Steam Controller. Not sure if this is ATS bug or Steam Big Picture / Steam Deck bug.

Key combinations would be nice to have, I’m starting to quickly run out of usable key binds!
