18 WOS: Haulin vs. ATS

#1 Post by Truckerking47 » 04 Jun 2016 20:11

I want to share with you all some differences that I found between American Truck Simulator and 18 WOS: Haulin which I am playing right now. First off, its takes way longer to deliver a load. I feel that the game time goes a little bit faster, a minute per second instead of a minute per few seconds. The scenery takes time to load. The trucks in truckstops are not real. And the list go on and on. So, this may be a interesting read for you all. I can't believe how much ATS has changed

It seems like you posted that "mid-thought" without finishing. But in any case, in my opinion there are three major differences, and everything else is inconsequential. Those being the time that each game was made, the technology available at the time each game was made and what SCS wanted to do at the time each game was made. They made the best game they could with the technology available to them at the time.

Haulin was made in 2006 vs ATS in 2013. Licensing of trucks was never an issue in ALH as no real truck manufacturers. The map scale of ATS 30 times bigger once they build to east coast take 3 to 3.5 hours to drive from San Franciso to New York City. Finally, this is why some like me did not want real truck manufacturers to start with as more trouble than it worth. The day will come want certain trucks in ATS or ETS gonna paid DLC because of time and money to get license to build the truck.

ATS may have been started sometime in 2013, but it wasn't released until February 2nd, 2016.

It's subjective. Way back in 2002 till Haulin surfaced in 2006, I think myself, you had nothing to compromise on in that grade of games, contrary to now while the graphics are A-factor for the gamer majority.

Haulin had its advantages - the broader spectrum of features, for one. While the ATS premise is big, it suffers from variety in game play perspective. In its presence.

My opinion!

If Haulin had proper physics it would actually be as enjoyable to play as ATS

It did have proper physics, when it was made. Haulin' was released in 2006. How was SCS supposed to know what they could do 10 years later? They can do many things now with ATS that they could not do in 2006. It's just plain old common sense that they could only work with what they had at the time.

Oftentimes I like to install old game just for the fun of it. I installed Hard Truck 18 WOS "the first game". In comparison to ATS aside from graphics and physics IMO the old 18 WOS game had much more realistic and better gameplay than ATS. I thought it was more realistic that you started off with an old truck, or had to be actually employed before becoming an owner operator. I like the logbook aspect, and being able to own a trailer. Graphically I though the smoke effect also added to realism.
Don't get me wrong i am thankful for SCS they try do work hard to make the best simulation they can, but on the other hand I think they have strayed too far from realism. I wish they would go back to their roots and incorporate some of the nice features of 18 WOW into ATS.
