For what its worth: I think the driver is in training, and the other guy who got out of the truck is his trainer. I've seen this video a few times.
Also, near the end, his glad hands broke. That's the hissing sound you hear, and then him getting out of the truck to check them.
What the hell was he thinking?

This is actually one of my favourite "So I think I'm having a bad day" videos, it cheers me up no end.
Re: What the hell was he thinking?
It's obvious why he did it. That bridge would have taken that top off clean. So it's really a very very inexperienced driver. I don't do name calling but it was not the smartest move. I doubt if the passenger is the trainer though. I don't think there is a trainer alive that would advise making a u-turn on a 2 lane road, in a conventional American truck with a 53' trailer. The passenger should have escorted him backwards. That truck is ruined though. I kinda felt bad for the driver but once I saw him keep trying, I lost sympathy. I am sure he went into panic mode. The truck jerked and jerked too much to be a calm rational thinking person.
My post are only thoughts and ideas. Don't assume it makes ATS.

This was so hard to watch... totally wrecking the poor truck.
That guy is for sure out of a job...
Question, what do a company do in this situation? Will the driver have to pay the damages or what can they do? Surely one cant get away with doing such a thing because this is beyond dumb. xD

He's fired on the spot. Usually the police are informed that the driver is to clean his stuff out and leave.

He could have performed the U turn a few meters back, where there's room.
But obviously he likes a challenge, and chooses the narrowest part of the road.

All that space on the parking lot and yet somehow he managed to take out the entire side of that Freightliner.

Re: What the **** was he thinking?
In his defense, the 13' - 0" sign was partially covered by the trees, so without knowing the height of the bridge, it's hard to tell if your truck will fit until you are right up on it. But that is no excuse for how he executed his U-turn maneuver. He could have backed into that driveway on the left to turn around, or he could have backed down the opposing lane of traffic until he found a safe spot to turn around.
