Google maps truckspotting

#1 Post by RTobi » 20 Aug 2018 18:31

From time to time I'm looking up some roads featured in ATS and how they look in real life - on Google maps and showing real trucks. I've seen plenty of beautiful pictures and was actually thinking "we could make a topic out of that" :D
You're welcome to post interesting Google Maps pictures here (via link). Interesting landscapes and/ or trucks.

This is my latest: https://www.google.com/maps/@32.9351545 ... 312!8i6656

ps: no very specific rules here - you can ignore the same routes as in ATS

Hey! He broke the rule! Those routes aren't in ATS!  ;)

I'll break the rule too and post these two. :D

8x4 Western Star with quad-axle tanker in Ellensburg, WA, going south on US-97: https://www.google.com/maps/@46.9909911 ... 312!8i6656

Schneider daycab Freightliner with a quad-axle box trailer (super singles all around + side skirts) in Kelso, WA, heading north on I-5: https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1500689 ... 312!8i6656

supersobes, love the landscape! I think we'll be getting that road in Oregon as well :)

TruckSimChris - is there a reason why trucks there usually have some extra axles?

Oh man, I've written about that a lot of the forums, so here's the short version. The weight limit in WA, OR and ID is 105,500 pounds for 8-axle trucks with a wheelbase 69 feet or longer, or 9 axles if it's between 60-68 feet.

The 7-axle Schneider truck can carry a gross weight of about 96,000 pounds.

It's all about protecting the pavement from deteriorating by spreading the weight, but I've also heard some drivers say having all those axles gives them a more comfortable ride quality too. Two pluses in one. ;)

Good to know and easy to understand, thank you :)
It might be good to just copy an explanation somewhere and paste it (or a link) whenever you need it :D

How about Canada? This is Mississauga, Ontario, going southwest on highway 401.

Mack with a 7-axle trailer: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.608551, ... 312!8i6656

Canadians don't mess around. These guys haul just under 140,000 pounds in this configuration. The front 2 axles on the trailer are steers. Note that only 6 of the 7 axles on the trailer are touching the ground. That 7th axle gets dropped when they cross the border into Michigan, turning it into a 10-axle configuration.
