The things behind the cab - Maybe some oldtimer or someone who knows the history can satisfy my curiosity,are these storage for tools and gear or are they custom sleepers?

Drom boxes. They are still popular in Canada. Was a way to haul more cargo and skirt around the length laws of the day in the states.
