Thread necromancy...

Kinda re-thought the Hillcrest Forestry logo and look over the last few months. With the amazing new update to the 3XX and also @Deezle's awesome truck/trailer mod, I decided this truck needed a video. Here is a Hillcrest Forestry log truck taking some logs down the BIG hill! Enjoy.

TJ DOING WHAT HE DOES

Where has TJ been? You may not have heard much from him in a while because he's just been out there, doing his thing. His 377 is still running well, and he babies it every chance he gets to keep it that way. Though it was put to a tough task at J. Ritter Transport before he bought it, he knew it would be a fine first truck since his cousin always kept his rigs well maintained.

TJ had recently picked up another trailer. His Stoughton was very nice, but he was not thrilled when he would have to check loads, secure items, or repair the interior of a black trailer when summer rolled around. Sure, his truck was black, but it had a functional a/c. The trailer was just pure heat. He would also get questionable looks when picking up anything that could be perishable in that trailer during the hotter months. So, what did he do? He decided to trade it in for a Utility 4000DX. It was nice, basic van trailer, and the white sides would do a better job reflecting the heat!

So really, though, what has he been up to? Well, he's been sticking around the Northwest a bit, though his regular tandem tractor and trailer won't haul as heavy as some of the other Pacific Northwest setups. He often hauls things that would "cube out," aka, fill up the trailer before he reached those higher weights, though. Sometimes he makes it down to Nevada and Utah, and on rare occasion into Arizona and New Mexico. He sees some decent freight in California, but he'd be shut down quickly in this old 377 with a rebuilt CAT. Recently he was hauling a load of used pallets out of his hometown of Ontario, Oregon. Normally this job doesn't pay well, but the rate was a bit higher for this one. He was headed to Newport, destined for a sawmill that also had a side operation recycling used lumber.

After getting through Burns, and the little hamlet of Hines, Tj was feeling a bit parched. He decided that it was time to take a little break, hit the restroom, and grab something cold to drink. He pulled into one of the few stopping spots before Bend on his route.

With his legs stretched, and a 99 cent can of green tea next to him in the cup holder, it was time for TJ to take off again. He got the rig wound up and was rolling through the scrub lands of central and eastern Oregon. Later today, the scenery would get more interesting.

Standing between him and that scenery was the town of Bend. Bend is not a large city, but there were enough traffic lights to slow him down and act as a bit of a barrier to the rest of his drive. It seemed once he got one green, the next light would be red before he could pass it!

To add further insult to injury, though it was now around six in the evening, there was a construction crew still working on one of the lanes on the approach to downtown.

However, all annoyance was forgotten as he left town and started rolling into the hills and forests. It was time to turn the cruise off and use his foot to regulate his fuel consumption, and make sure he was driving his truck correctly. This old Pete doesn't have adaptive cruise control!

Another big waypoint out of the way, the last big one until his destination. Tj crossed above Interstate 5 and was past Albany without much trouble.

He made it. It was pretty much nighttime, at least twilight when he arrived. The mill workers were all at home. He had phoned ahead earlier in the day, and gotten permission to sleep on the property. He had been here a few times before, and they also knew J, who had hauled quite a few loads of lumber from here, so they knew he would be fine. He pulled onto the property to look for a spot to sleep. He actually didn't have another load immediately lined up, but that was planned. He knew a place in Newport proper where he could get a good deal on some new drive tires, and he was going to take his truck into town tomorrow to get his truck some new treads!

@BK Vissers, thanks! I do love that truck, and it does drive oh so well. Kind of nice to do something different every so often as well. (Me, pull a van trailer? lol)

Nice @J. Ritter! Best to get the rpms around 1700 in a pull and set the cruise.

@Larry71490, what's great about your comment is that is generally what I have done while playing, without even knowing it was "right," haha. I just felt right. Thanks for reading!

Even the new engines I never lugged. Always let them pull 1500 or higher.
