SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

If you use a descent adblocker you don't have to worry about their file host. And as soon as you have Reforma and MUO, you really don't want to go back and play without them. The PaZzMod area together with the I-5 and I-10 near Los Angeles is really, really beautiful...
@Quaristice what about this traffic_rules_spawn.sui file? Is there any possibility to include this file again, without having crashes? It seems that the roads are not as crowded as they used to be.

If a blocker has to be used for safety, the site shouldn't be used in the first place.

Oh, you can use the site without an adblocker; you'll just see a bunch of advertising. That's all.

...and a high chance of a virus.
Been there, done that. Don't try to convince me to continue using it, or to support anyone who does. You will just be wasting your time.

Thank you Vinnie, I will tryVinnie Terranova wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021 13:22 I did a quick test. I got a CTD driving from Flagstaff to Phoenix via I-17. Error in game.log:
<ERROR> Failed to find parent item 0x37E46AB009400001 for payload data from '/map/usa/sec-0019+0006.data'.
I used the 2. Coast 2 Coast load order with the following adjustment:
- ...
- rest of load order
- ...
- Island Map 0.1.4
- Reforma C2C Compatibility Patch v.6
- Montana Canadream RC
- Montana Expansion (v0.9.9.6)
- CanaDream v2.40.1
- Coast to Coast v2.11.14
- Grand Canyon Rebuild (v1.3)
- MUO/Reforma Compatibility Patch (downloaded yesterday)
- Reforma 2.1.4
- Minor Urban Overhaul v12 (also downloaded yesterday)
I also had deleted the traffic_rules_spawn.sui.
What could have caused the CTD?

@bobgrey1997
You can give JDownloader (free open source software) a try to download the files without directly interacting with the website
I've heard no one actually having problem with the file hosts though... It's the files, not the hosts that get you the virus

It's also the ads. The site utilizes a full-page overlay that, when clicked, opens another window and attempts to transmit data.
Because the file download button is on the page, the overlay also covers it.
I've never heard of this JDownloader, but will look into it. Thanks.

About that full-page overlay: that's not true: I just disabled my adblocker and tried to download a file on ShareMods. On the first page you have to click on the 'Create Download Link' button. Then a second page loads and a normal popup that asks for the download location. That's all...
Ofcourse there are some advertising blocks on both pages, but I see no reason to click on an advertising.

The banner ads are fine. I fully support those, as they do help fund the site (and maybe the mod authors), and are easy to not click on.
If the overlay is no longer a thing, it is new.
I haven't used ShareMods in a long while. Last time I did, I had these issues.
I have tested it a few times over recent years, and the overlay situation was "hit or miss" (sometimes it would happen, other times it wouldn't).
If they do away with it entirely, for good, I would consider using the site again.

Re: [REL] Minor Urban Overhaul (04/02/2021)
So, in essence, you have to be savvy enough to know how to get and install such extensions, as well as modify their parameters by the page and site.
I know how to install the extensions, but not much of anything beyond that.
I still stand behind the idea that if such expertise is required for safe navigation of a given site, that site simply should not be used.
Most of the mod creators are either too ignorant (not "dumb", but rather "ignoring the situation") or too greedy to care. In either case, I refuse to respect such people.
If they don't respect the users showing them support by actively downloading the content and providing feedback on it enough to provide a safe method for downloading their content, they won't be getting respect back.
IF ShareMods changes their advertising system to no longer use such ads, I'd be perfectly fine with it.
However, ShareMods does use such ads, and the mod creators show their active support of that advertising system by using the site.
Sorry for my little rant. It's been a long couple weeks here in Salt Lake, and sometimes I just like to rant about things I am passionate about when I get frustrated. This is probably not a good thread for it, though.
