ATS Example file structure mod using templates (Includes Volvo VNL 2018)

SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

Probably can't use a template pulled for one truck on another one even though both 389's. You will have to find the template for the Rollin Pete 389.

Yeah like PBandJ said. You will no doubt have to find that mods template, even if its slightly different it is different and will not work.

New to skinning. The information you provided is very helpful. Thank You. Have a few questions. Converting the PDN file to a PNG file. Does the skin need to be resized prior to conversion? With one of the skins had a VAS (Virtual Address Space Issue the skin was not converted to a PDN file 4096 x 4096.
Please provide information and or a link. Searched the net from start to finish. Thank You.
1. Is there a certain size the skin should be? Example Semi Tractor 1024 x 1024, 2048 x 2048 or a 4096 x 4096? Noticed a template for a truck mod was 8024 x 8024?
2. Pixels per inch..A lot of monitors are 72 Pixels per inch. Is there any reason to set to 98 Pixels per inch or higher?
3. Bit depth?

Thank you for your response.

Information :

Calculating the number of shades of grey contained by a particular bit depth is quite easy. If the bit depth is represented by n, then the total number of shades of grey would be 2n. For instance, an 8-bit image means that it can have 28 = 256 shades of grey. And a 10-bit image can contain 1024 shades of grey. Notice what seems like a difference of 2-bits actually has a difference of 4 times the information.

Generally speaking, whenever we say 8-bit or 10-bit, it refers to bits per channel (BPC). A color image is comprised of three channels: red, green, and blue. Therefore, an 8-bit color image will have 8 bits of red, 8 bits of green, and 8 bits of blue color information, which makes 24-bits of color information.

Im not sure about PDN files. I do not use paint.net. I use gimp for my image editing, so sadly can not help you there.
The final images should be in .dds format not PNG, only exception to this is the mod image which should be .jpg.
What image were you not able to convert?
For image sizes 8k (8024) is overkill and not needed. Keep skins at 4k and accessories can be lower at 2k or even 1k depending on their physical sizes ingame.
As for PPI and bit depth, I just use gimp default which is 72ppi and 8bits for my skins and they look just fine and I believe scs color system is based on 8bit depth.

Apologize for the late response. PDN when convert the file directly as a DDS file the file structure was to large checked properties causing the VAS issue. Saved as a PNG file. Then load the file into ATS Mod Studio and allow it to convert the PNG file the file was considerably smaller fixed the VAS (Virtual Address Space) (Not Physical Memory) issue. Heres and example. SCS 389 .dds Properties. 213 MB. Same file converted to a .png file 220 KB. Both files are 4096 x 4096 Resolution 95.99 = pixels per inch. Could, be lowerd to 72.00

Tested on second monitor with Sysinternals is a extension of process Explorer. Used this software for monitoring process running in the back ground, GPU Load, CPU Load per core, Physical Memory Load etc..Can also ck per process running in game and or in back ground apps..

gamelog.txt Allocated VAS 8388607M. In relation ship to a 64 Bit SCS engine. When VAS builds up to these numbers over a time period will cause a CTD.

00:00:00.000 : [mem] virtual total: 8388607M (***Not Physical Memory***) Physical Memory: physical total: 16321M 00:00:00.000 : [mem] physical avail: 12070M
00:00:00.000 : [mem] virtual avail: 8388039M

In Flight Simulation: Flight Simulator X (Microsoft) is a 32 Bit engine it is critical when skinning a airplane to have the Texture file size correct and Bit Debth to prevent VAS errors.
Thats why I asked about the SCS engine when creating a skin what the parameters are..

You answered the question really appreciate the help Thank You.

1. Skins 4K
2. Accessories 2k
3. PPI bit debth 72 ppi Is 72 pixels per inch is correct. Monitors = 72 pixels per inch.
4. SCS color system 8 bit. Was not aware of that.

Thank You again for all your work.
