[REL] Rest Period for ATS v2023.04.13

Forum rules
SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.
Posting in the Mods forum (ATS and ETS2) is restricted to sharing free-to-the-public mods and providing support for mods. For more details, please check the Forum Rules.

Vinnie, are you going to change this to update to today's standard of 11 hours max for driving, and the required 10hrs off duty? 12 hours rest total as "naps" is not legally allowed. Don't get caught doing that with today's electronic log books. ;)

It used to be 10 hrs max driving and 8 hrs required straight off duty time for a 24 hr period. And a 70 hr max work week with at least 1 24 hr period off duty. Then they went a screwed things up with the above rules.

No, I'm not gonna change the settings of this mod, as it is totally unrealistic anyway. Besides that, the default driving and resting times in both ATS and ETS2 are also totally unrealistic. It's also not flexible: take a look at realistic driving time and rest period in the EU, for instance. Realistic driving times and rest periods are slightly more complicated than 'drive for 11 hours max and then rest for 10 hours (in the US)'.

But feel free to adjust the driving time and rest period in my mod; it's not password protected, so you can freely adjust anything you want.

Ok no problem, I was only wondering. Thanks for the reply.

I can't mess with mods as when I try to open a .scs file all I can see is gobbled gook like this.....
S” d àx í þÀ =€ @ð ô € à 0‹ê.0vTFd3/zªº½¾ëûN}šG™¼Èf

There are only a couple of .scs mod files that I have opened and can actually read in English, that are not like the above.

It depends on what programs you have installed on your computer, but this should work:

1) Rename "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.scs" to "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.zip" (in Windows Explorer / Total Commander / etc)
2) Doubleclick on "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.zip"
3) Browse to def\map_data.sii (or just to map_data.sii)
4) Edit map_data.sii with Notepad / Notepad++ / etc
5) Save the changes you made
6) Close the file "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.zip"
7) Rename "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.zip" back to "Rest Period for ATS v1.38.scs"

Note Pad ++ doesn't work for me. And I've no idea why it won't. I've tried and tried many times, but it's a no go.

If Notepad++ doesn't work on your computer, I guess there is something serious wrong with your computer. Anyway, you also can use the standard Notepad that comes with Windows.

This mod is updated using a new version number system. The reason for this new version number system is that a mod made for a specific version of ATS sometimes also works in newer versions of ATS. Therefore it can be somewhat confusing when the ATS version number is included in the name mod.
From now I will use the date instead of the ATS version number to include in the name of the mod.

With "Rest Period for ATS v2021.12.16" ATS v1.47.1.0 crashes to desktop when loading a map.

For ATS 1.47 the /def/economy_data.sii file changed and this mod modifies that file. Two options: wait until the mod is updated of extract economy_data.sii from the new 1.47 def.scs and copy the changes into the mod.
