fuel consumption doesn't work properly [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by Lexx » 05 Feb 2016 16:35

I got my eco skill to the maximum and yet there's no change in the fuel consumption. I tried using realistic consumption and non-realistic - still no change. I even made a mod reducing consumption to 1% (99% decreased) just to test it and still nothing changed - for a job of 800 miles I still have to stop at least once for refueling. The info screen reads I have fuel for over a thousand miles and yet 150 miles before the destination the game alerts me my fuel tank is nearly empty.

Today I had similar situation I was on low fuel - dash showed that I can drive ~120 miles on it, I had 60-70 miles to gas station and after ~30 miles my truck suddenly stopped with no fuel. Fuel consumption or display may be bugged.

I forgot to mention something else about info screen - realistic cons or no realistic, the screens reads 85 L/100 miles and that's it - before eco skill and afte eco skill it's still the same number and if consumption were realistic the numbers should change (but atm they don't) as you accelerate or decelerate (just like they did on ETS 2).

I just had a closer look on it - the consumption info on dash is changing properly (bigger on higher rpm and lower on lower). Its just not as dynamic as in ETS2 because its not temporary consumption, it's average on 100 miles/kilometers.

It's not average. I did some experimenting and I can tell you for sure - it's not. Atm fuel consumption is based only on how long time passes with started engine (1 game minute = 1-2 litres), instead of being based on eco skill AND fuel tank size AND whether or not you're driving with a trailer AND whether or not you're driving in the so called "red zone" of the RPM - like it was on ETS 2. That's the real meaning of the option "realistic fuel consumption" which was one the first things I made sure to be activated for my profile on ATS.
For the experiment I made the tank size to be 2000 litres and with the default map scale for the distance from Eureka to El Centro (~1000 miles or so) it was down to almost 50%. The dashboard reads 90.5 litres/100 miles (all the time) but if that reading were true, when I arrived at the destination, I should have about 1100 litres left which is a little more than half a tank. But I didn't - it had 750 litres left.
With a time scale shrunk by 50% everything was decreased by half - distances, time speed running AND the fuel consumption. The dashboard kept reading 90.5 litres/100 miles but after the time scale change I went from San Diego to Redding with almost 600 litres thus allowing me to travel the state about 3 times before I have to refuel.

The only possible conclusion I can make from this experiment is that the fuel consumption is based only on time and on nothing else.

there are two models for consumption.
simple model just count flat time idle consumption (if truck is standing) or flat distance consumption (if moving) and result is modified by eco driving skill.
advanced model (enabled fuel simulation in options) works on engine level and computes consumption directly based on engine rpm, pressure, volume, effective throttle etc. in this mode it ignores eco driving skill as it measures actual players skill.

dashboard numbers for instant consumption are ALWAYS the real ones, so it may differ from range if you have disabled fuel simulation. average consumption is trip_dstance/trip_consumption computed since last trip counter reset.
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

How does it measure my skill? Based on what?

As Max said, advanced model it's just like in real life.

Code: Select all

advanced model (enabled fuel simulation in options) works on engine level and computes consumption directly based on engine rpm, pressure, volume, effective throttle etc. in this mode it ignores eco driving skill as it measures actual players skill.

What is the simple model fuel consumption anyway? Would be nice to know.
My testing seem to indicate it is very high without eco skill.
Average for me so far with the 550hp engine has been around 34L/100KM or 6.9mpg, but turning off real fuel seem to increase fuel use by around 50%.

"Skill" is not a value here, nothing you can train with points from advancing your level. It's just your ability with the foot on the throttle (or finger if you're not using pedals).
