Jake Brake not working in neutral [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by fabristunt » 11 Feb 2016 14:04

The Jake Brake doesn't seem to work when in neutral.
Teoretically it shoudn't matter wheter the transmission is in gear or not. It should drop the RPMs anyway, provided that neither the clutch nor the accelerator are pressed.

I've also read on this forum that in the real word it can be used to make the RPMs drop faster during a gear shift. This would come in handy with the 10 speed transmission, as I often loose the momentum while shifting through the lower gears because the RPMs drop kinda slowly and i have to wait till they match the next gear.

Fabrizio

interesting. could someone confirm that?
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

I have no real truck driving experience, but theoretically that should happen. I found it mentioned on some forums.

the jake even works when the truck is sitting still in neutral. Rev the engine with the accelator...let off and it instantly goes to idle. I mean no wind down whatsoever.
The Jake brake dropping the revs is also present in OMSI 2, but that's a bus simulator, so things may be a little bit different.

It wouldn't provide much braking force at all in neutral.
Never argue with idiots. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I don't think fabristunt is talking about the braking effect of the jake brake but rather whether it engages period, when you use it in neutral. I don't have an answer on the real behavior, though.

I could see it being very useful to speed up changing gears!

Jake braking in neutral gear...

#6 Post by MPROx98 » 17 Feb 2016 12:45

Hi !

This feature is available in ETS2 (while most of european trucks don't have any jake brake system) why it's not present in ATS ? :D

I would really like to see this feature back !!

Thanks

I just can provide the following forum link: viewtopic.php?f=203&t=201909

Maybe Max from SCS still needs confirmation that this feature works (and is used) in real trucks, too.
Or Max already took it on his list.

Yes, I can. Ever since I saw this topic I was thinking about trying and I did today. If I use engine brake while in neutral, it doesn't work and some strange icon appears on the dashboard - right next to the outside temperature field (T680) - but it's too small and I can't even say what it looks like. It appears in the location the arrow is pointing at:
