I'm trying to find ways to play convoy with a friend and hear each other's engines.
Currently using Vipers379, but it's mute. I know the mod needs to have it's sound updated for 1.42
Are there any mods currently working in 1.42 sound-wise?
Can I perhaps replace Vipers379 sound with this pack from kriechbaum and edit a few files myself to get it working?
We just can't stand the vanilla trucks and their lack of customizability.

Yes, it's possible.
Extract the pack into a folder, go to [extracted pack]/def/vehicle/truck/ and create a new folder with the name of the truck as in the truck mod e.g.: peterbilt.389v2, and inside it create another folder named engine, then get the following vanilla files from \\def\vehicle\truck\kenworth.w900\engine\ and paste it into the folder: [extracted pack]\def\vehicle\truck\[truck name]\engine\.
[ external image ]
You can get those files by extracting def.scs you can make your own files by copying the following into new files with their respective file names:

sound.sui

Code: Select all

# Configuration of the engine sounds for the specific truck.
	sounds:5
	sounds[]: "engine|/def/vehicle/truck/kenworth.w900/engine/sound_engine.soundref"
	sounds[]: "exhaust|/def/vehicle/truck/kenworth.w900/engine/sound_exhaust.soundref"
	sounds[]: "start_bad|/def/vehicle/truck/kenworth.w900/engine/sound_start_bad.soundref"
	sounds[]: "turbo|/def/vehicle/truck/kenworth.w900/engine/sound_turbo.soundref"
	sounds[]: "remote|/def/vehicle/truck/kenworth.w900/engine/sound_engine_rm.soundref"
sound_engine.soundref

Code: Select all

source="/sound/truck/kenworth_w900.bank#engine/engine"
sound_engine_rm.soundref

Code: Select all

source="/sound/truck/kenworth_w900_rm.bank#remote/engine"
sound_exhaust.soundref

Code: Select all

source="/sound/truck/kenworth_w900.bank#engine/exhaust"
sound_start_bad.soundref

Code: Select all

source="/sound/truck/kenworth_w900.bank#engine/start_bad"
sound_turbo.soundref

Code: Select all

source="/sound/truck/kenworth_w900.bank#engine/turbo"
Then check the modded truck's engine files and look for this line:
[ external image ]
if it is any different, like @include "sound_isxs.sui" or something else, just change it as shown in the screenshot.

And lastly, if you want to use kriechbaum's interior sound files too, you just need to copy both files in W900_SCS_Reworked_sound_1.43.zip\def\vehicle\truck\kenworth.w900\interior\ into its respective folder in the extracted pack.

This way you can use kriechbaum's pack with his new W900 sounds, you'll only need to enable the pack and disable the W900 sound mod
Note: the game can read mods from folders instead of .zip or .scs so you can move or delete the pack's .scs and load the folder on which you extracted the pack.
I hope this helps.

in 1.43ob using this soundpack, there is no interior sound .. so any adjustments and or editing will most probably be need to be done again. Maybe wait a bit until Kriechbaum updates it?

in 1.43 there's exterior/interior sound filter so you can customize interior/exterior sound filter which is not effect straight to the sound bank

basically no need to update if you don't want to change sound filter
I make mods

yeah that's pretty much it

@Slavthailand None of the 1.42 mod trucks I tried had interior sound or engine sound.

Yes you can and you don't need to touch any bank files.

@iceCat3003 Has the answer although he over complicates it.

All you need to do is add a folder called peterbilt.389v2, copy the engine folder from one of the other trucks in Kreicbaum's engine pack to the new folder, the W-900 is as good as any. Then you have to rename every instance of kenworth.w900 in every engine file to peterbilt.389v2
With notepad ++ you can do them all at once, with regular notepad it could get tedious. That's all there is to it and can be done with any truck as long as you know the truck's internal name.
Then when you've done that go into the garage and filter out all but Kreichbaum's engine pack with the filter and choose your engine.
Copying the interior folder from one of the other trucks works too.

But that way you don't use the independent W900 sound mod, you only use the sounds that are already in the pack. Alternatively, you can just place the sound.sui and the *.soundref files I stated into the truck mod, then open all desired engines in NotePad++ and replace the @include "sound_isxs" or whatever with @include "sound.sui". that way you should keep enabled both, the engine sound pack and the separate W900 sounds.

The Viper's 379 already has kriechbaum engine sounds, all I want to do is change the config files so me and my friend can hear each others engines in Convoy mode.

I'm a bit confused about what does W900 sounds have to do with the issue...
