Re: Engine sound mega pack 3.6 date 2021/07/04
!!! I'M ON THE ROAD AGAIN !!!
I've been running ATS less and less lately. Sounds all over the map. And Frankly they were just missing that little something that made me feel "Nice try but no cigar..."... Then your latest YouTube and Megapack 3.6. Pulled it in and threw the N14 into my W900 and WOW !!! So I did a haul from Seattle to Utah and what a pleasure.
I've been running some Zeemod 3406E in my Petebilt and was thinking 3.6 probably won't beat that sound though... gave it a shot... BOOM !!! Kman is back in the saddle and I'm running totally Kriechbaum engines. Except the K100. Couldn't bolt you into that truck for some reason (proprietary modded truck so I'll keep Zeemod in that one for the time being (love the cabover for a change, or for doing oversize loads).
Megapack 3.6 is AMAZING... thank you so much for your time and effort and general contributions to the quality of sound immersions in the simulator...

@mikerosoft666 you're aware there are two versions of that truck in respect to engines & paintjobs? One is setback axle the other is set forward axle.

Kriechbaum is the best. Period. Thank you for your amazing work.

@Delta, If You need the transmission/air gear sounds, the following has to be done to include air_gear sound registration..
In /def/vehicle/truck/<truck_name>/transmission directory, open the *.sui file in text editor, usually its named sound.sui or sound_dt.sui etc. And in that file, probably air_gear entry is missing and has to be added as shown below.
Change above file to below file content.
The above changes cause default transmission sounds to be played. You can stop reading this post here if default transmission sound is what You need.
However, if custom sounds are needed per truck, then a new soundref file can be placed in the transmission directory of the truck and the new soundref file can have below single line content in it.
However, creating the new custom bank file is a different ballgame and needs fmod studio support, but it isn't very difficult.

Code: Select all
# Configuration of the transmission sounds for the specific truck.
sounds: 3
sounds[]: "retarder|/sound/truck/default/retarder.soundref"
sounds[]: "gear_grind|/sound/truck/default/effects_gear_grind.soundref"
sounds[]: "gear_wrong|/sound/truck/default/effects_gear_wrong.soundref"

American trucks don't make gear air sounds.

@Trucker_71 correction, EATON transmissions and Allison transmission do not make gear air sounds, Volvo i-shift/Mack mDrive does, and the Detroit DT12 too (they are basically modified Mercedes transmissions), and for thsoe that remember it, the ZF-Meritor FreedomLine (a rebranded version of the AS-Tronic) had air gear sounds.
The only eaton transmission that may make gear change air sounds would be the Eaton Endurant, but i'm not sure on that front (they did mention that the mechanism is specially made for an automated transmission instead of being adapted from a manual transmission like the Ultrashift)

sadly there are no good videos on youtube where you can hear it, especially on the new DD engines that have this very special sound

I've heard IRL the sound the DT-12 gearbox makes, and it's indeed special and strange.
Obviously it's the same sound on the Mercedes, because the DT gearbox is basically the same(or almost the same) as the PowerShift gearbox.

I've only been retired for 9 years, I guess the world can change that fast. I've never driven an automatic other than I got to try out a Frightliner with an Allison back in the late 70's, but in all my years driving manual transmissions the only sound ever heard was the little puff of air when shifting to high range, or a mis-shift! lol
I prefer not to have gear air sounds in the game for what are old school manual transmissions.

Re: Engine sound mega pack 3.6 date 2021/07/04
It's actually the exact same from what I found, with the only difference being the clutch assembly (with power restriction on many of them being because of their clutches)
Here the equivalency :
DT12-OB/DT12-OHL = G230-12
DT12-DB/DT12-DHL = G211-12
DT12-OA/DT12-OH = G330-12
DT12-DA/DT12-DH = G281-12
Note that the only transmissions that have no equivalency on the ratios are the DT12-OHE/OV, DT12-DHE/DV and DT12-OVX, for some reason. But they still use the same casings and are still based on the G330 and G281
