Lowboy 55L back dolly vibrates [ACKNOWLEDGED]

#1 Post by MacGruber » 15 Aug 2017 13:10

The dolly starts to vibrate when making a turn, truck shakes just like my avatar
(I drove on the water, because I needed vast space to drive safely)

Man, you go about 35 mph, have you ever seen someone making such sharp turn with such trailer/cargo in such speed? If so, please provide reference :)

It's not a sharp turn and it's not so fast, and this occurs while driving - this GIF just shows the vibration as an example

Then show that while driving :) And yes, with such cargo in such speed it's a sharp turn, if you did that in reality, the trailer or tires would break apart.

That turn is a sharp turn for that speed with a trailer.

once again, this GIF just shows the vibration.
It happens when driving ON REGULAR ROADS IN THE GAME ON REGULAR TURNS AT THE SAME SPEED OR LOWER (35 mph)
(I used water surface as a huge area without any obstacles)
There is nothing sharp in this turn

I can't show it to you right now, because I'm not recording my gameplays
Lower speed (30 and less)
The vibration stops when I straighten the truck

I can't really reproduce it unless I make a sharp turn in high speed or when I make dangerous turns from one side to other side. I need you to record it on regular road and with the beginning, ie. what did you do before the vibration occurs.

The spreader is quite shaky, I have seen this since the launch of Heavy Cargo DLC for ATS.

However, I also think this is quite normal. The spreader has basically a single point of connection with the rest of the trailer, so it's vulnerable to torsion and rotation along longitudinal axis.

Exactly, IRL in such turns the tires would blow up or something bad would happen to the trailer, but since we don't have any physical damage, this shaking is the only possible outcome. Anyway, it would be a bug if it happen during lower speeds and wider turns, but so far I've only seen gifs from prepared conditions. For better refference, you might also want to show us a video where someone is making such turn in 30 mph with such trailer (I doubt you would find any).

I have also seen it shaking quite visible when I drive with 65 mph on a road with quite smooth curves but with lots of up and down slopes. I remember seeing this on US 395.

But, as I said, it's quite understandable. I have no idea how your physics engine works, all I can see is the output, but the result is quite believeable. The spreader is under stress even in straight line, so it have to dissipate the excess somehow when the forces increase. It cannot move left or right (yaw) because the tyre friction is too big, it cannot move up and down (pitch) because the hinge is rigid (unlike the kingpin and the joint between the front dolly and trailer), so the only axis left available is the longitudinal one. So it rolls and this rolling creates torsion in the frame.
