AI drivers are nuts!

#1 Post by Gazer75 » 20 Nov 2017 19:30

I've had several incidents where the AI slams into my side from the left lane. It's like it doesn't see me and want to change lane.

Driving along the interstate only to hit AI traffic moving at 40mph slowly accelerating.
This has actually caused some nice chain rear-ends by AI vehicles LOL

Trucks driving side by side at 60mph or less for miles causing massive queues. Typically those medium trucks.

AI driving to far into an intersection blocking my left turn.

AI trucks driving past me and slowing down below speed limit after moving over to right lane again.

The AI (regardless of whether it's ETS2 or ATS) is a program with limited number of things it can do. Remember those things, and like you would do if you were driving an actual car or truck, be prepared for anything and watch for other vehicles doing something stupid because you know they will sooner or later... And you will have less problems.

With the exception of the 1st one (thankfully) I'm pretty sure I've seen all of these in real life.

Been to California, have ya? [ external image ]

I've been saying for years that I think SCS modeled the behavior of the AI on California drivers.

I do like that the AI is a bit unpredictable sometimes, but there are areas when it does need to be addressed.

The issue the OP has is something I recently had. The AI just acts as if you are not there (or he fell asleep at the wheel) they are roughly half way along side you and just try and turn into your lane. There doesn't appear to be any reason or rhyme to it, it's not specific points on the map as far as I can tell and because it is random it's hard to capture the moment to properly report it.

The one thing that I hate about the AI is when merging on the Acceleration lane into the highway by stopping than turn, but you don't do that IRL.

There seem to be a van that is causing some problems. It seem to max out at around 55mph, but often drives at 40mph or something after spawning.
In a 1500 mile drive yesterday I had this van cause some huge queues at least 3 times because it was doing around 40 and slowly accelerating to 55.
Think I passed like 6 of them once I got into Arizona and was cruising at 60.

Also noticed AI trucks rarely if ever do 55, but drive closer to 50 in California. From what I've read its the other way around, they rarely do 55 or less :)
