Strange how I have NOT had the pauses in ATS though.

Have devs got an idea as to why? I cant imagine it be AVG scanning to be a problem

edit: spoken to Tarso - he thinks its being looked into.

I am fairly confident that this is part of the issue, I am seeing the same results except that I have been doing the opposite.

I just jumped in the beta yesterday and happy to have something to spend my money on (all the garages are unlocked -with all the DLCs- and I have had over 250 drivers since Italy) I actually spent hours buying tons of trailers for all my garages. I probably went overboard, with 1 type of trailer available for each driver... it was over 1,300 owned trailers spread across the whole map. And when I finally started my first delivery in 1.32 today I kept experiencing microfreezes like every 30 seconds. I spent some time trying to figure out what was going wrong and finally ruled out mods, my graphic settings, etc.

I was suspicious about this thousand of trailers, cut down their number in half (598 trailers) and I did see some improvement: microfreezes were less severe (maybe one second long compared to several seconds) and more spaced out. Honestly things became clear to me when I started monitoring the route advisor that I usually hide. These freezes happened when a driver was finishing a job (and I suspect when starting one). I imagine that there is now a big simulation happening behind the scene now that drivers can take a trailer (what are the trailers available in the city, what are the jobs available for that trailer) and a couple of hundred drivers mixed with hundreds of trailers might be a lot to handle. Though it seems to be happening with drivers on regular jobs too.

I have further cut down my number of owned trailers, now down to about a hundred, and while I still experience microfreezes they tend to be more spaced out.

So yeah this is just my experience but I also believe that a lot of drivers and a lot of trailers are causing this issue.

interesting.

I think I will dispose of my trailers and have just owned trailers, on my "Scorpio" profile I gave all my drivers DAF XF106, on the "Salamander" profile, im going M.A.N as there is no tuning accessories available. see if that makes any difference.

Can you post your logs up please so the Dev's can see them.

Pretty sure that my game log would be frowned upon as I have some mods active but I am 99% confident that they are not the culprit.

I have also just done the same thing than carloscrac5 and created a new profile, throwing all my mods in to play in the same setting and to break that profile if that's what happens but guess what: zero hired driver, zero owned truck and I have just done a 300km delivery without no stuttering at all.

Is there a way to track our drivers' activity in the dev console? Like:
Joe takes trailer #N in city xxx
Joe takes delivery of yyy from xxx to zzz
Joe is resting
Joe finishes delivery
Joe is idle

I really have the feeling that having a high amount of drivers and/or trailers is causing these hiccups as a lot of activity is actually going on (I also forgot to mention that my game is hanging for 30 seconds to 1 minute when I am resting, before the time advances, as if a lot of calculation was happening). I hope they figure it out, it would be a bummer to be penalized for developing our company by hiring as many drivers as the game allows us. And this stutter sadly makes the game unplayable to me, it would be a deal breaker.

I have finally sold all my owned trailers but 7 that I have set to private so no one else can use them. My game was still stuttering so I looked at all my hired drivers (272, almost the max amount that we can hire) and I have fired them in waves to see how my game was running during my deliveries. Here are the results:

- 272 drivers: stuttering every minute or less, mildly severe (can be 1s or more), game is freezing for a few seconds after finishing a job (when clicking Continue), game is freezing for 30 seconds to 1 minute when sleeping (unresponsive before the time advances)
- 150 drivers: pretty much the same, just a minor improvement
- 100 drivers: stuttering every 5 minutes on average, 1s or less long most of the time, no freeze after finishing a job, game is freezing for 20 seconds or less when sleeping
- 50 drivers: pretty much the same, little improvement
- 10 drivers: no stuttering at all, no freeze at all when finishing a job or sleeping

So our number of drivers definitely has an impact on performances in 1.32.

In the evening I am going to take my older saves with my thousand of owned trailers and those with less, while firing my drivers by the same amount, to see how the game runs and I'll come up with some charts later.

Thanks for the test, but I still don't know what to believe. I have 95 drivers in ETS2 (and stuttering) and 40 in ATS (and no stuttering at all), but you are still seeing problems with 50 drivers in ETS2. Weird...

I don't know how the game handles hired drivers. Maybe it checks the jobs available to a garage/city before checking each driver and since ATS has less garages that's less work to do. ATS has a much smaller scale: less cities, less garages, probably less jobs available too. Also I tested with 50 drivers, I jumped directly down to 10, maybe ~40 is a threshold for stability.

Still, it wasn't an issue before this update. My game was handling my 250+ drivers all fine.

Honestly, I do not think it is related to the amount of vehicles and drivers you have.

I see the process of jobs by hired drivers run in background - you see messages, yes, but the calculation and results are being run as secondary task - or even, based on pre-determined parameters and algorithms. For example, you have all origin and destination points, aswell all available cargo - the game just make combinations between those for each driver, and that's it. Not something complicated, really, and so, not something that would stress the CPU, for example.

To compare, the physics of accessories has to consider a lot more variables, calculated many times per second - speed, turn degree of steering wheel, lateral acceleration, terrain, gravity, and many other. Still, it does not cause stuttering.

But, we need much more testing, for example, with different PC settings, setups, making the game progress from scratch and check if it does appear at some point, for example, when a X number of vehicles are bought or drivers hired - even if it is the vehicles alone, or only when there are drivers - since, if there are no drivers, the vehicle does not leave garage and thus, no further calculation is needed with cargo, trailer, etc.

I am not yet ready to come up with a chart as I want to do more tests (and redo my tests with the 7 private trailers more precisely) but that's my temporary observations. I have ran my tests with 1348 public trailers, checking how the game run over 40 minutes for each test, I have been even more precise, with a Word doc opened on my laptop next to me, hitting a random character each time it was stuttering (you can see how many characters in the doc) and using a stopwatch on my mobile to time everything — figures in brackets are how many trailers were in use by drivers at the end of my delivery, I didn't think of giving it a look on my first 2 tests. And as you can see the number of owned trailers has actually little impact on performance even wih that high amount, the results are quite close to 7 private trailers. On the other hand, reducing my amount of drivers keeps improving performance, with 1348 public trailers but only 10 hired drivers, I only had 2 micro-stutters in 40 minutes (my first one was even hardly noticeable that I could have ignored it) and the game hangs for a reasonable 10s (compared to the first results) before advancing time when sleeping.

When I am opening the cargo job lists (for owned trailers) sometimes it can take a couple of seconds for the list to come up, even at a company only to display a handful of jobs. Imagine if every time that a driver is available and the game is checking for a job it does that behind the scene. Imagine that it is what happens when dozens of drivers finish and start a job when you sleep and the game struggles to calculate this.

This is what my CPU usage looked like when my game has been freezing for 90s when requesting to sleep:

There is clearly a lot going on here. My expirements keep showing that if the amount of owned trailers has little impact on the other hand the amount of drivers is really causing issues.
