On screen H-Shifter

On screen H-Shifter

#1 Post by Harry » 22 Mar 2020 00:44

Hello, I would like to introduce to you my new mod concept for ets 2 (and ats). As the title says, it is a "On-screen H-Shifter".
This mod renders a shifter on screen and allows to change gears by using a mouse. This is just a concept and isn't ready for release to the public, but here is a video demonstrating how it works:
What do you think? Is it a good idea? Should I release it? Any suggestions on how may I improve it?

(I'm not sure if I posted it on correct subforum)

I thought of something similar years ago but I don't have the technical expertise to do anything with it so I am glad someone else did!

My question is how do you use it? Are you clicking and holding while dragging to shift and not clicking and dragging to move the camera? Or is it a matter of actually clicking on the little shifter square to move it?

I will.

@Devour
I was inspired by Spintires game, I wanted to create it half-year ago, but back then SCS was in the process of changing renderer so I had to wait, now I have more time, so I can finally do it.

To shift, I disable camera movement.

Here is keybinding (it will be possible to change):
R key enable shifting (and disable camera movement)
Q key switch layout, also if you hold Q it will switch to reverse, I'm not sure how to handle ATS's 18 gears, but I'm thinking about another key.

excellent mod. I wanted to ask you if it also works with the original scania knob, which has splitters for high and low gears.

I use this https://www.amazon.it/Gearshift-Scania- ... B075YRPSRQ

@Damiano975 Hi, this plugin is only for people who don't have shifter or even wheel. It will be for mouse or gamepad. But yeah, there will be low and high gears.

Huh, almost month since announced, and here is changelog things I have done so far (visible changes):
- added scaling
- Fixed lines overlapping
- Added support for ATS
- Added config (panel offset, opacity, keybindings)

There are also lots of technical changes, but listing them isn't important, important is that it will work.

Things left to do:
- Support for XInput (gamepads)
- Shifter layouts

Shifter and config window:

Actually I was just thinking around how to use my mouse as a H Shifter.
Instead of putting gears number you could model real Eaton Fuller 18-gears.

R-Low 1 3
Low 2 4

RANGE button

R-Hi 5LH 7LH
Low 6LH 8LH

As on real 13 or 18-gearbox setup as the game takes care of the rest.
ATS and ETS2 models Range (going upstair and downstairs on gearbox level) and Splitter (swapping between Low and High on the same gear).
It would be FANTASTIC !!!!

R - Reverse
Low - starting uphill/heavy load/very limited speed/manouvers
Going normally from 1 2 3 4 then Range button then 5L then 5H then 6L then 6H etc .... Backwards 6H 6L 5H 5L Range 4

I know how this 13 and 18 gearbox works, ATS / ETS2 models it completely but I cannot figure out how to make this via vJoy and UCR.
Gaming mouse have a button on the side to allow Range button, Splitter button and even Clutch.
