Serbia pre-research tips

#1 Post by Dirk » 18 Jan 2019 15:27

Hello everybody!

As we're doing some pre-research for ETS2, we'd like to know your opinion on some of the things which we shouldn't miss in the game in our future planned DLCs - in this case for the SERBIA state.

Unfortunately it can be very easy to miss some key spots when planning a future road network. We can judge only from what we read or see, while those who live there, have driven there or visited there, can point us towards some famous truck stops, interesting landmark, points of interest etc.

So we'd appreciate any tips which could be helpful for us and that could easily work with in-game mechanics. Try to keep in mind that we're interested in places connected with trucks and roads. So if you have some tips, we'd be grateful. Don't be shy to add photos / videos of said locations (in better quality, so our graphics can use them as pattern).

Please be aware, that states listed here mean absolutely no promise of what's the next DLC or what states will come first. Also we can't guarantee that we'll use the research you give us - it depends on many aspects (which can't be all written here).

Cheers! [ external image ]

We are getting closer to Belgrade, capital of Serbia. This is a well known place "Zmajeva pumpa", or in English, "Dragons fuel station", it's called like that because in Serbia, there is a oil company called "Zmaj 1" and "Zmaj 2".

https://www.google.com/maps/@44.831482, ... 6656?hl=sr
https://www.google.com/maps/@44.8312331 ... !1e3?hl=sr

They got the name Zmaj because there was once a large factory harvesters called the Zmaj.
And the company is called NIS (Naftna Industrija Srbije).
In Serbia there is another company for the sale of petroleum products. For an example Gazprom Neft, Lukoil, OMV, Euro Petrol.
I wrote this because my company where I work is supplying pumps across the whole of Serbia.

Northwestern Serbia

Some economic info that is necessary to establish what industries the game needs to include:

One fifth of Serbia’s exports are agricultural. If one looks at Wikipedia one can see that Serbia is the world’s second largest producer of plums, second largest producer of strawberries, (most of these are ending up as exports) and of course it also produces and exports sunflower, sugar beet, soybean, potato, apple, pork meat, beef, poultry and dairy. (Source: Wikipedia)

The primary agricultural region is in the northwest, a duchy called Vojvodina. This is incredibly fertile land, mostly a very flat plain.

Agriculture is not the only industry in this area, a recent development is a fast growing IT sector. There is also Apatin brewery, which dates back to 1756. It is located in a town that would be interesting from a scenery and local flavour perspective:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apatin

An exception to the relatively flat plains is the “mountainous”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruška_Gora

Which is the site of several monasteries dating back to Byzantine times. The area has a lot of vineyards and is known for its wine production.

A large urban Center is Novi Sad (pop 250k+) the second largest city in Serbia. Architecture from the 19th century dominates the city centre. Industry at this time (aside from serving the agricultural surroundings) is primarily and oil refinery, located northeast of the town, and the thermal power plant. Novi Sad has a vibrant and competitive financial sector. the city is home to major energy companies like Naftna Industrija Srbije oil company and Srbijagas gas company. It is also the seat of the wheat market.

Notable are the four bridges crossing the Danube at Novi Sad.

When we mention the mountains, it would be nice to set up a list of mountains in Serbia.

Novi Sad- include the Petrovaradin fortress on a massive rock outcrop on the Dunav(Danube) river ,it's a very prominent landmark.
Belgrade-the Kalemagden another fortress on a rock outcrop on the Dunav river.
