100% GPU load when the game is minimized

#1 Post by EvgenKo423 » 29 Dec 2019 09:15

Not sure if it's related to this bug, but I don't remember experiencing this problem during beta.

When I Alt+Tab the game it seems to be paused (CPU load falls down, but it's still around 5%, which wasn't the case during beta), however GPU load is rising to 100%:

The game was on a profiles screen, not even loaded a profile.

And sadly it probably won't get fixed 'till the end of holidays... :(

Game version: 1.36.2.17s, 64-bit.
OS: Windows 7 SP1, 64-bit.
Reproducibility: always.
Game log:

(54.12 KiB) Downloaded 130 times

EDIT: Profile loaded, game minimized.
V-Sync OFF: up to 15% CPU load, ~70% GPU load.
V-Sync ON (< 60 FPS): up to 15% CPU load, ~70-90% GPU load (zig-zagging).

Just FYI, this problem still exists in 1.38.

much longer. since 1.32?
this has been reported here many times, but unfortunately it seems SCS can't fix it. the whole thing has more bad side effects like a high electricity bill, higher hardware wear and tear. a positive side effect is, in the winter time i don't need to turn on the heating in my room. :P

Not really. This problem was indeed reported many times, but it usually got fixed in a few beta updates or the next big one. I remember seeing this before DX11, but it was fixed later on. It's strange, however, that there was no such problem during 1.36 beta, but it popped up in release.

In the winter time I can't turn off heating in my room (or any other either), so it actually overheat even more, but during autumn it indeed helps a bit. :)

Now that your big work on graphics is near completion, would you mind finally fixing this in 1.40 as well?

I don't know how long it's been there, but with NVIDIA driver version 461.20 there's a setting in the NVIDIA control panel called "Background Application Max Frame Rate" that can cap the frame rate of a game running in the background to anything between 20-200 fps. It can be set globally or just for ETS2/ATS as well.

While the nvidia driver solution is ok, this really needs to be fixed.

@alclark, nice to know, but it would be more useful if the minimum was like 1 or 0. ;)

I added that poll to get the stats of how many people are affected by this bug or not. I think it's more than appropriate here. It's a proper report, so why it can't have both?
Unfortunately, I see your company becoming less community-friendly and community-listening as you grow...
