Estimated Fuel Range not working correctly. [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by Jim Frost » 18 Feb 2021 15:50

When I turn on the 'Realistic Fuel Consumption" the fuel range estimator tool reports the non-realistic consumption, and not the actual.
Started new profile, no mods
Example 1: Averaged 5.5mpg, had 49 gallons left in tank, and the estimator reported 237 mi range, which is the base 4.79mpg on the non-realistic fuel consumption.
Example 2: Averaged 6.7mpg had 142 gallons left in tank, and the estimator reported 681 mi range, which again is the base of 4.79mpg.
Now you're saying so you have more miles left than reported, no big deal.
How ever on a level 36+ account the problem is reversed, the base jumps to 7.35mpg, so the estimator reports that, rather than the 3.4mpg I get when hauling heavy loads. That's a huge problem, as I have to calculate range myself so I can plan my fuel/rest stops out.
I have seen other comments recently, but no bug report.
I am new to the game and love it, please correct the estimator.

I'll get my alt profile up to 36 eventually, because I suspect that the -35% fuel skill does not apply to the realistic consumption mode. I'll save the skill points, make multiple runs with realistic on, same truck, load, and hopefully route, then apply the points.

I have the same problem, maybe since the 1.39 (or before) update.
I use this 8x6 Volvo for heavy transports, avg 60L/100m, currently 90L/100.
Range calculation is completely wrong.
With 700L of fuel, I can only drive a bit more than 1000kms, not 2400 :(
I have the same problem in ATS, too.

estimator could make only guess as any other device.
if consumption is resolved realistically it will always differ from any giess as driver can do anything and go anywhere.

an interesting fact: do you know why IRL newer trucks mostly do not have this field in their dashes? :)
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

@Max Cars do, but a car's weight is relatively constant as compared to the difference in total weight of a truck at any moment. Guessing fuel consumption accurately between an aggregate weight of 30tons and a weight of 9tons could be problematic because I guess the margin for error grows wider as the weight difference grows.
I would hazard a guess also that the fuel consumption forecast would be more accurate when the truck is bobtail.
If you suck at playing the trumpet, that's probably why.

I don’t think it’s accurate either. BT should consume less fuel than when a trailer is attached to it, but Jim’s observation says otherwise.

This estimation should be an issue in real life too, different drivers have different driving habits and the system may not identify that. Perhaps because of that, trucks nowadays have the indication of how much fuel is left instead of much km can we drive.
