With a new profile it is not happening (a quick job random DAF truck). Perhaps it is something to do with the truck's mirror configuration since Mohegan13 was also using an Iveco Stralis. Can mirrors function differently? I was using upgraded chrome mirrors.

Re: Too Dark Rear View Mirrors at Night
Mirrors don't "function" differently. Mirrors are a virtual display showing us the content of another camera generated by the 3D engine (and not really sure, but I think moders don't have any control on those cameras).
What can happen (I'm just guessing) is that your moded mirrors have some layers in front of that virtual display, put there to give the mirrors some desired look, but with the side effect of being filtering the image compared with regular non-moded ones.
Non to mention whatever other thing a mod could include that you aren't aware of. It's a classic, that a mod about A and B also has changes on C because that was useful for the moder own game and he didn't care the problems that could cause on other people.
Another of the good reasons (specially with updates like 1.40) to say: always check things on a CLEAN profile (not just without mods, but one that NEVER had mods on it). It's the only way to be sure something that could seem us weird is SCS fault or our mods fault.
Regards

Thank you for your considerations, @Some newbie driver. One thing, though, I've never used mods. Ever. What I did was upgrade from the plastic mirrors to the chrome modern ones. All within the official game. Some newbie driver wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021 15:06What can happen (I'm just guessing) is that your moded mirrors have some layers in front of that virtual display, put there to give the mirrors some desired look, but with the side effect of being filtering the image compared with regular non-moded ones.
I downgraded back to the plastic mirrors and I no longer have the issue. UI mirrors and regular mirrors have practically the same image. Can someone also please check if this happens with the Chrome Modern mirrors on the Iveco Stralis so we can move this thread to a bug report?
Thanks.

Yes it is possible for the chrome mirrors and the stock mirrors to function differently, the issue is with the chrome modern mirrors.
Bug confirmed.

Thanks for the confirmation, @Mohegan13.
Since I'm a newbie on this forum, what is the best way to go about this? Ask a mod to move this thread to the Bugs 1.40 sub-forum (retro-fitting the missing information), or create a new thread from scratch there?

No need I've already reported it to the internal QA system.

OK my fault here. I understood you very wrong and thought you was talking about the name of a mod for mirrors.
Well, one more bug for the devs to work on. Probably some change to addapt them to new lights they missed to do on chromed model of mirrors compared with the rest. Hopefully easy to fix so we could have it on oan update soon.
BTW; I'm driving an Stralis all those days... plastic mirrors.

Re: Too Dark Rear View Mirrors at Night [155823]
As I found out with my mod mirrors, the internal model material has different shader info so mirrors that are not updated to 1.40 may appear way too dark or way too bright in some situations.
Of the 12 sets of mirrors 6 uk and 6 eu cabs the EU chrome modern is the only ones affected on the truck.

No worries, @Some newbie driver. Most likely, mod issues are a very frequent occurrence on these forums as I gather from skimming through some threads. Some newbie driver wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021 15:40I understood you very wrong and thought you was talking about the name of a mod for mirrors.
Seems the lower entry price makes it a popular choice . I couldn't help myself pimping it out. Some newbie driver wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021 15:40BTW; I'm driving an Stralis all those days... plastic mirrors.
Thanks, @Mohegan 13.
Exactly, the effect was being a bit too bright during the day (bearable), and way too dark at night (it was driving me crazy - no pun intended ).
Good to know the issue is properly identified. I went back to the regular chrome mirrors for the time being.
All the best.
