AI Traffic Stopping at Entry Ramps

#1 Post by jeremyj621 » 21 Mar 2021 21:30

When AI traffic approaches an entry ramp on the highway or interstate, they will stop to allow another vehicle to merge onto the highway. This is totally unrealistic behavior, not to mention it's illegal and dangerous to stop on the interstate here in the US. This doesn't occur at any particular location, it occurs at all entry ramps. Traffic merging onto the highway must yield to oncoming traffic, not the other way around.

@ OP

Yeah, it's really frustrating and getting old.
SCS could I think maybe fix that and I say maybe, by having a rule for the inside lane:

Disallowing cars to travel on the inside lane unless entering and exiting the highways / interstates.
This would do two things:
1./ It would allow us to, merge better with the flow of the traffic and...
2./ It would stop them from: STOPPING and BLOCKING the 'entrance' to scales.
sry, I'm not shouting at you

What it would not do is... stop trucks from doing what you're complaing about.
But again, SCS could add another rule, no stopping on the inside lane, for 'any' reason.

Don't forget about the AI turning right ant intersections and half way around the fracking corner they stop for a minute and then take off.. That has been on of the pet peeves I have for the AI for a very long time. The AI in this game suck bad water all day long.....

Honestly I have never encountered the issue being reported here.

I would need to know specific locations ( coordinates ), video and / or screenshot proof of this behavior. You claim it happens everywhere, yet I don't see it happening at all. Are you sure you're not using mods?

Quote removed - Don't quote the post above - Rule 2.12

Pure vanilla profile that never used mods. This is also an issue in ETS2, not just ATS. Follow traffic on any highway in the game, and if they approach an entry ramp where another vehicle is merging, this issue WILL occur. If it's not happening for you, I'd sure like to know why and how.

It started happening since Oregon I think, exiting some scales can be pain due to that, in ets2 happens usually when merging 3 lanes into 2 or 2 into 1
So in general its not new at all.

Here is one example of it in ets2 where all but far left lane gets blocked due to merging, often ai crashes happen

I have seen this also. Traffic that is already on the freeways stop to let the traffic on the get on ramps . This is total B.S because it against the law to stop like that because it causes wrecks. The Traffic on the ramps are suppose to stop for the traffic that is already om the freeways......

My experience is that this issue happens at all of the many freeway on-ramp merge points in the game, for example this one:

Code: Select all

onramp merge point ;[07/05/2021 17:01:42] (sec-0020-0009);-79880.9;63.3651;-32803.8;-2.85281;-0.0524218

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Drive very slowly on an on-ramp.

Note: This issue also occurs when you drive at regular highway speed, but it can then be more difficult to observe because your timing needs to match the traffic on the freeway, which is random. Also, you gotta watch your rear-view mirror, obviously (or use a backward-looking camera view).

Expected Behaviour:

Traffic on the freeway moves over to the fast lane at highway speed (or close to it).

Actual Behaviour:

See screenshot.

[ external image ]

In this case, once traffic in the freeway slow lane began to stop, the player truck was stopped as well in order to better document actual AI behaviour.

This particular screenshot was taken on 1.39, but I don't think it matters. The issue has existed since at least 1.29 and still exists in 1.40. Some mods are installed, but none have ever been active on this particular profile.
