CS:GO is from 2012

CS is from 1999 (started as a half-life multiplayer mod and later acquired by Valve and rereleased in 2000)
A free unofficial non steam version of CS 1.6 still exists today

@plykkegaard CSGO is 2 months older than ETS2. So it is technically older than ETS2 is what I mean.

CS:GO was released in closed beta in 2011 (for 10.000 players as a start)
The ETS2 release in 2012 was an open development version, don't know when the first full version came out

ETS2 didn't come to Steam until a month after release, but the October 19 2012 release date we just celebrated was the actual release.

I remember when I bought ETS 2 on release day I received a serial. A while after SCS launched a campaign to add Steam, months after I added the same Steam serial.

Last news I heard about that game specifically would had gone in the opposite direction. Considering how in last years they had been cowing the players with re-releases of old material with almost no changes (considering the capacity they have to do so).... Not a happy playerbase in this case I'm afraid.

Point is not just to have a game active released for long. Point is to keep caring for it with continuous development. 3 Years ago SCS games (specially ETS2) were already "old" as the average of the industry, but over all, they were completely outdated in the technical aspects. They are not state of the art games, but the effort to bring them to more modern standards is more than noticeable. Most companies would had just throw everything to the bin and start over or cancelled and moved to other projects.

The business model seems to be ok as SCS has a fairly steady income without the large investment up front
In case of new game development you to take the risk and invest money without knowing if it will be worth it
