Which is the better: Horse power or torque
But the European engines are better at both.

People more knowledgeable can slap me if I’m talking crap, but I can’t remember an American engine with more than 3000 Nm since the days when slapping a Cat C18 or similar in a truck was a thing.

@Larry71490 Yes, but Cummins still have the biggest market share around in general, at around 40%, with most of these being the 15-Liters

In Europe you will find 4x2 trucks even rigids with more than 600hp pulling curtainsiders 40t 86000p doing Otr and only that

I think this has to do with witch has the biggest!!!

There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question.

@gandalf7472000 For the chassis, it's mostly the bridge formula that invite this.

4x2 limit you a lot on the weight you can transport, so 6x4 is preferred just because the weight distribution means that you can transport more weighté

Maybe is crazy or stupid what I say, but... what if Volvo takes more power from a KERS thing, like Ferrari LaFerrari or McLaren P1. Use some electrical charge and add it to the base power to get more combined?

The big 3 American truck engine companies well 2 now have been living in the past for the last 20yrs, they have been making 600hp variants since the late 90's apart from Detriot up until recently with their highest hp motor that I know of was a 585 S60 series.

People that know me on here will know I love my Cat motors and like driving my Cat powered Argosy but after driving a 730hp V8 Scania a few years ago I can see why Euro trucks are becoming more popular over here due to their overall status, to me the Euro trucks are far superior in power, comfort, handling and fuel efficiency especially in a hp/L scenario the only thing that the modern American motors might be better at is reliability.

@rookie_one why go a smaller displacement with higher hp & torque figures putting more strain on the engine by doing so when you can use a bigger displacement engine that can do the same thing with less strain, reliabilty it just has important then trying to get the most fuel efficiency out of a engine by going smaller. Just have a look at the car companies thinking stupid and putting more power into smaller displacement motors and look how good realiabilty factor is, lucky enough to get 160k miles or 200k kilometers out of small high hp motors these without having some big overhaul done to them at some stage.

Also the RB series motors are just as legendary then the 2j's with power output and reliability in doing so. But can't go past the LS series motors as well, especially with the iron blocks, seeing 1000,1500+hp in stock block, crank & pistons LS's are quite a common occurrence in modified cars over here.

@rookie_one No in Europe long distance OTR has to do with fuel capacity 4x2 holds more and in many countries no matter how many axles you have you can only carry 40t
But still you will see s730 Scania’s or 750 Volvosor 640 man’s with a 4x2 configuration to haul curtainsiders from let’s say Rome to Stockholm.
