everything loads normally for me, it isnt the browser or the internet connection, the problem is always this forum, f5 sometimes takes ages and especially the General Discussion Thread takes ages, even other browsers i have take longer to download it

frankly, phpBB is garbage, SCS should invest money in a life long license for a better forum software solution

I can honestly say I have never had issues with this topic. In the past before the server change the forum in general would slow down a bit but that's all.

The Moderator log would take ages to search in the past, like 5+ minutes and that's assuming it didn't just time out. 437,922 entries in the log and even that is moving super fast now. In this case, I honestly think it's something other than the forum causing you issues.

That said, I hate phpBB too.

There's days when this topic loads slow to me too (not talking about when there's a flood of people smashing F5 due to some event/news long awaited).

I always assumed it's due its enormous size in messages compared with the rest. Nothing that it bothers me, but noticeable anyway.

If I visit a topic, is there more loaded than a single page? Calculating how many further pages of a topic are existing, and display some buttons for these can't be a big issue. I never noticed a specific topic to be slow, big or small. Except for images of course, but these are usually hosted elsewhere, and thus don't count.

Sometimes the forum itself does respond only after some seconds, or I get an error message that there was no connection established. Reloading usually fixes this.

It shouldn't, but things aren't never so easy. It's usual that configurations of those systems or the underlying database are optimized for the common use case and, when one topic is clearly out of that scope, it can suffer performance problems. This topic has more messages, views and activity in general than any other of the forum with several degrees of magnitude in difference. So, if anyone has to cause problems will be this one for sure.
