User type color helper js for Google Chrome browser

#1 Post by davidzoli » 23 Jan 2016 06:59

If you pay attention to use someone's nick in a right color, you noticed that can be a pain because the colors are not in the color palette or they are hard to find :)

I've made a small JavaScript addon to make selection easier.
Image
The links are make the (selected) text bold and colored.

Installation:
  1. Install this Google Chrome addon: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... elnpjljija
  2. Open a forum page. Not necessary a reply or new topic page. Only domain matters.
  3. Select jQuery 1.11.0 in the second select.
  4. Copy this gist's content into the addon: https://gist.github.com/davidzoli/bf536ee3d44d887157b7
    You have to see this:

  5. Save
  6. If it's ok, you can hide the "cjs" button in its right click menu
After this when you open a post window, you will see the user type color selector too.

What is this?
This is a small JavaScript code injection to the site on client (your) side.

Is this secure?
Yes. Despite it is an injected JavaScript this code is not harmful. The source is readable, (copied by you) and contains only necessary things.
Don't use that Google Crome addon for unknown codes (from untrusted sources)!

Can this make other thing unusable?
Yes. If it has a problem, it can stop the whole site's own JavaScript working.
In that case just delete the addon's code from the code field and save the empty field. Than everything should be ok again. It's working like a mod in the game :)

Do you plan other functions too?
I missed this function for this time :) And the site's HTML source is quite outdated. So the possibilities are limited. But if you have a widely useful suggestion, share that and I'll check that.

Really useful! Wish I'd thought of doing this months ago. Thanks davidzoli! (see, it works ;))

(ooooh. and it bolds it too! you thought of everything...)

EDIT: you could also add #C20600, which would be "Admin" (Michal)

Thanks guys!
Admin red added in the gist. You can update your script if you haven't made that extra one linkHolder.append() by yourselves.

Dark gold and white is not necessary in a reply, I think.
For info, the regular text color is #D2D4D5 in hex format.

Any chance we can have this stickied?
It's really quite a useful tool, and it took me ages to find it (yes, even with google - it's difficult to work out keywords for it!)

WTH is an "Operator" ?
LOOKING TO BUY AN SKRS SHIFTER?
DO NOT BUY FROM CSIO TECHNOLOGIES

They'll take your payment immediately yet they show no signs of fulfilling orders,
I ordered mine 3 months ago and they WILL NOT communicate with me at all!
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Nice, appears to work well Mr davidzoli, this Moderator approves :P

(I now have to use two scripts on this archaic forum, I use that one to give us the SCS logo in the page tab and favourites bar too)
