Some embedded pictures aren't displayed on SCS forum, using Google Chrome

#1 Post by Reinhard » 09 Nov 2020 09:45

EDIT: This is now solved for pictures from my own server. Google Chrome now affords the installation of an SSL Certificate, for proper secure transfer (HTTPS), on server side. Which I did. Keyword "mixed content".

Me, and other people, recently have problems with embedded picture display. Sometimes pictures in posts don't show up, while they properly display when accessed directly, via URL.

I have already discussed this with others, who have the same experience. It seems only to happen with Google Chrome, with Firefox and Opera everything works fine.

This is the latest example I saw: viewtopic.php?f=276&t=291573#p1444388

I can't offer an explanation. Pictures from my own server share the same fate. While they are all produced as JPEG images with PAINT.NET, nothing special done. I just reworked an image of mine with Paint 3D, same result:

I checked it in incognito mode, same result. So it is not a rogue Chrome extension.

Edge and Internet Explorer are ok

Not all image hosts are affected, but

I can't add a image link from my own blog (old image) hosted by simply.com

Yep. But I think this is what our problems are about.

Looks as if I have to change to https. Which probably means I have to pay for a SSL certificate, yearly. :?

Thanks for the suggestion. It is really cheap. But I'm way too lazy to migrate.
