There's no point into change AI core routines because they have no room to improve until SCS could leverage way more CPU for them.

What they had do for sure, more than once in past times, is to touch some parameters. I guess values about the distance in where the AI considers other vehicle is too close to don't merge. 1.39 had a big change respect to that for sure. They probably keep touching values of that kind testing. And of course, any of that kind of changes is going to cause havoc with high density traffic mods.

If you add to this the usual amount of bugs in prefabs on a new DLC, where yield zones aren't well defined; the cocktail is explosive.

I would call it interesting rather than explosive 😁

The easiest way to deal with it is by setting it to 0, which I have found myself doing rather often lately.

@plykkegaard You can't outsmart it if it causes a pileup blocking an exit. All you can do then is to disable it. I used to get this problem only with traffic mods, but it's started happening in vanilla, too.

A watchdog timer is a safeguard put in the code to avoid deadlocks. It's started let's say to 100 cycles, and it starts to countdown immediately and independently of the rest of the code. If it arrives to 0, he forces some kind of "reset" into the main code of the program. If the program runs correctly, it will restart the watchdog to 100 periodically so nothing happens. But if some unwanted situation cause the code to get blocked, the watchdog timer will reach 0 and do its job to try to recover the control.
