oooor, SCS didnt even bother to ask, we didnt get the L6 540 and i doubt we would get the new V8s, also, the whole license thing sound kinda bullshit because they did take the time to change the badge of the S series even though there was no need to do it because those trucks are 2016/17 models and not late 2019/20 where the change took effect after the agreement between Daimler and Scania

so they took the time to make a useless change that has no effect instead of making 5 new engine available that do have an effect

SCS didn't take time to change the S series badge.

Scania was forced by law to do so thus Scania had to force all their licensers to act accordingly because he can't legally keep licensing the old style badge.

With physical products that means no more production with the old badge and destruction of all the stocks remaining to be sold (obviously, law can't force Scania to replace physical products already sold). With software that means a new version of any licensed software should include the change; only who remains on previous versions can legally keep the old one.

That's how it works when one has deals with big companies and their share of suited sharks.

yes, they did take time to do it, the law cant force a video game developer to change a badge that has no effect, if this was the case then Scania would have to call back all produced Scania S trucks and change the badge on them also, and this would nobody do, the agreement between those 2 was that every new truck from there one has to be named differently, the models ingame clearly marked as 2016 Scania R and S, so they are not affected by it, also even after the agreement Scania still sold the old S Badge on already ordered trucks, they didnt change anything, every new ordered truck was affected, so old trucks and the game didnt need to change anything

Licensing is NOT a punctual agreement on a given time, it's a continuous relationship between licenser and licensed companies for the whole duration of the agreement.

Scania lost the rights to use the Sxxx naming for vehicles in court; that includes the right to yield any license about that same naming. That means that Scania was forced by that sentence to change the terms of ALL their licensing companies regarding the Sxxx naming.

In the case of SCS, and as their software is still "alive", that means that on future updates of the affected software (reasonably sooner in time), they had to change the badge too. It doesn't matter that they are put over 3D models of trucks named as older than the agreement. If it's a new version of a software past the moment when Scania lost that lawsuit, the game can't include the old badge because Scania can't license it.

That's how those things work. And Scania didn't sold a single truck with the old badge after the date in which the agreement was enforced. Concesionaires sold them (they aren't owned by Scania even if they are franchises or have other kind of relationship that allows them to use Scania brand in their billboards). Scania already sold the trucks to the concessionaires time before ad that saved them to had to change all the trucks already in process.

Even if SCS could try to argue their 3D trucks are labeled from 2016, they could also be considered as later models equally. And if a court is so blindfold and strict to consider anybody could confuse a semi-truck with a luxury sedan (hence they arrived an agreement before the court resolution was still worse); go imagine what opportunities will have SCS to be heard. It would had been a lose of time, money, efforts and relationship with the manufacturers.
