What I don't understand is why SCS keeps using low res texture for their paintjobs!

Unfortunately our speculation of a 'Real world' was realized with a 'Retrowave'.
But I confess, I thought this addition was very nice. I will try it out, even though I like to use only metallic paints in my trucks.

I wonder the same. It's a shame because some of the paintjobs are really cool, but totally wasted with this low-res texture quality.

I have 64GB of memory in my PC. One day I was testing the limits of the game, and I was using paintjobs with crazy high resolutions like 16K, 32K, and 64K. Using those, I managed to get the game to run out of memory and crash. Besides, using resolutions above 8K won't make much difference anyways because the game simply cannot show that amount of detail.

I don't know what resolution are SCS recent paintjobs, but i believe they can increase it without problems.
To be honest, one has to have a really low spec PC to not be able to run high-res paintjobs.
At this point,i think it has to be so low spec that the pc has to be below minimum requirements.

I only have an i5 4670K,16 GB(in dual channel)of DDR3 1600 MHz memory and a GTX 1050 Ti.That's no high-end nor very powerful specs, but i bet someone with lower specs than that can be able to run higher res paintjobs.

They could do it like Skyrim and have the high resolution versions a separate "DLC" on Steam. So you pay for the paint job pack, and you can download the normal res or the high res version. Probably more hassle than it's worth, so I'd prefer them to just release higher quality paint jobs by default. Even just a small resolution bump would make a difference.

I like the paint job set, but I can certainly sympathize with the people who wish the quality was higher (not that I can talk when my computer is one of the potatoes holding this game back.) we'll get a 70s or 60s set next right

I'm rather curious how they'll handle future trucks, though. Will they get their own two paint jobs? Will they steal paint jobs from the most similar truck? Will they only get the two 'shared' ones, or none at all? It's something to look out for, I think.

I feel like some of these would need to be REALLY low, outside of a small handful of the more modest ones (like the retro stripes, retro wave, metallic, etc.). At least for ATS, EU might have crazier trucks for all I know.

Or, you can do 2 types of files.

Normal textures and HD/4K textures. Depending on your configurations settings, the ones it takes.

Like it was/is in the Codemasters F1 series.

I used to run a Core2Quad Q8300, 4GB or DDR3 Ram made by a unknown brand (in single channel) and a GT 220 1GB which is a build so much worse than yours (Yours could considered a budget gamer pc) and had no issues running high res paintjobs. So that's not a plausible excuse for making low res stuff.
