We're aware of the issues with rule [2.12]. From previous polls done similar to this one as well as other user feedback that has been observed, we also know how the community feels about that rule. We have discussed it internally, and we already have a plan for what we are going to do about that particular rule.

Nice to know it supersobes.

@bobgrey1997 my first 2 "contacts" with greenies were by quoting very specific parts of texts form the previous messages as mine. I never abused quotes but never found also a place with such way of rule it and the strictness it was enforced. it was hard to change lots of years of get used to act in a way here isn't allowed.

Regards

This is the correct answer. Quoting the above post is simply never necessary; in whole or in part.

But as Supersobes said, this will be addressed in the rules refresh.

I disagree. A short quote makes perfectly sense if you reply to a long posting with several different points.

I have always followed the rules of the usenet

How do I quote correctly in Usenet? - Quoting and Answering
https://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote2.html#ss2.1

Maybe you can find inspiration here?
I have been on usenet since mid nineties until "private" forums became the norm

@plykkegaard and @Reinhard; You guys are making a good point, and that's why the changes we're planning on implementing will allow that. :P

I used the Usenet for a long time. But I was a reader, almost, only. I faintly remember the "Netiquette".

In my view, there are 3 rules:
  • Be polite
  • Use your brain
  • Don't post images that are very large, or big in terms of file size.

This is actually not true.
If a post is addressing several aspects of a conversation, and you want to respond to one specific part, it is nearly impossible for a reader to follow unless you quote that specific part.

What you say is what lots of people common sense would point (and the reason why supersobes says they are looking for changes on that rule). But so far, what Mohegan13 said you is as the rule exist actually in this forum.
