[California, possibly other states too] Illegal tralier? [NOT A BUG]

#1 Post by GamePro1337 » 02 Aug 2021 06:59

At a weigh station in California, I was fined for pulling...a...legal...tralier??? It doesn't make sense. It's a long tank trailer, but still a single, so it should be legal in all 50 states.

Here's where I was:

Code: Select all

Illegal trailer??? ;[01/08/2021 23:17:54] (sec-0027+0001);-107772;9.59714;4532.47;-2.72592;-0.0855858
And here's the trailer I was pulling (Propane was the cargo, but I don't think that has anything to do with it):

Version 1.41.1.10s
Should always be reproducible, at least in California, but possibly other states, too

Hello to you GamePro1337,

California has a length rule which must not exceed 40 feet. This length is from the trailer kingpin to the center of the rearmost trailer axle.

Here is the California Department of Transportation "Caltrans" website link showing the length rules: https://dot.ca.gov/programs/traffic-ope ... uick-guide

Here is a website link from truckingtruth.com "forum section where many experienced drivers share information" showing the 48 continuous states in regard to their length rule (kingpin setting): https://www.truckingtruth.com/truckers- ... ngpin-laws

In your example, it is clearly overexceeding 40 feet and this is why you got a fine at the inspection station. Thus, it is not a bug! Hope this help, Gabriel

:o Wow. I had no idea.

Looking at purchasable trailers, it looks like any 53-footer with an axle at the very rear (like the one I was pulling) is illegal in California. I also have ProMods Canada, and it looks like these trailers are also illegal in British Columbia. Thanks for letting me know. My mind is blown.
