Version of game : 1.41
PC operating system : windows 10 64bit
Reproducibility of the bug : Often
While I was pulling empty container B-doubles, I found that the automatic transmission behaved strangely on starting up.
The transmission sometimes will select 1st gear as starting gear, which is preferable, other times it will select 3rd gear as starting gear.
3rd gear is simply not suitable for starting up. The truck struggled to move even when it was unladen.

Just tested this issue again earlier. The transmission often will shift up from 1st gear to 3rd for some reason if I press forward key.

Re: Strange automatic transmission behavior when pulling empty owned container B-doubles
i would not see this as a bug.
transmisson decides to use higher gears sometimes, but it is always when it is safe option - i mean when truck could safely and fluently start.
this decision is based on many things, one of them is slope the truck is standing on. it is quite possiblke, that there is small 1degree slope and transmission falls back to safe 1st gear start (which is slower and eats more fuel, btw).

Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.
Re: Strange automatic transmission behavior when pulling empty owned container B-doubles
What about this one?
When truck was unladen, it started at 4th gear, but once the trailer was hooked on, it started at 5th gear.
Shouldn't it start at lower gear with the trailer hooked on since, well, the combined weight is higher?

Re: Strange automatic transmission behavior when pulling empty owned container B-doubles
i would need to debug exact situation to tell this for sure.
could you send me all availabe info: truck you had (chassis, engine, transmission, ...), trailer, exact place (coordinations), cargo data if any (suppose its empty trailer) etc ...?
