T500rs FFB - No High Speed Centering Force [NOT A BUG]
T500rs FFB - No High Speed Centering Force [NOT A BUG]
Hi devs.
Thankyou for update v1.42.
I have a problem with my Thrustmaster T500rs wheel in ATS.
I cannot feel any wheel "centering force" after ~30-35mph.
I have Low Speed centering force at around 25% and I think it's working as it should.
However, the "High Speed Centering" force... I have tried putting that at 100%, all the way to the right and there is no centering force whatsoever.
I have also tried putting the "High Speed Centering" force all the way to the left, just in case it was working opposite to what it should've been and it feels exactly the same as all the way to the right.
My understanding would be that; as the truck reaches XX mph, the low speed centering force would start to blend into the high speed centering force.
However, like I said above.. after about ~35mph I don't feel any centering force whatsoever.
Thrustmaster cpl settings below.
overall strength: 60
Constant: 86
Periodic: 75
Spring: 39
Damper: 11
Auto-Centre settings:
by the wheel: Unchecked
by the game(Recommended): Checked
ATS:
High Speed Centering Force: All the way to the left and all the way to the right feels the same.
From ~30-35mph upto +80mph or max speed of the truck = no centering force.
========

No mods used on this profile.
Although I have tried my other profile with mods and it's the exact same outcome.
tyvmia...
ps. I hope we can resolve this.

Re: T500rs Forcefeedback - No High Speed Centering Force
Hi, have you tried increasing the gain slider?
Try maxing out the gain slider and reduce friction, resonance, bumps and collision to half the default position so they counter act the gain as we want to see the effect only over the centering.
Keep high speed centering at max and low speed centering between what you have and half slider(default position)
See if that has any effect on the problem

Re: T500rs Forcefeedback - No High Speed Centering Force
Thankyou very much for trying to help @Tarso, it's much appreciated.
I did try what you suggested and although it did help with ffb feeling, high speed centering force was still near nonexistent.
Like when turning the wheel to go round bends on the highway @ say +50mph, once you turn the wheel, the wheel would hold a near 'constant' radius with no return to centre.
So.. the only way i've managed to get something similar to a 'spring force/return to centre' was in the " controls.sii " file.
my settings are below.
config_lines[41]: "constant c_ff_enabled 1.000000"
config_lines[42]: "constant c_ff_gain 7.500000"
config_lines[43]: "constant c_ff_hi_spd 2.000000"
config_lines[44]: "constant c_ff_lo_spd 0.330000"
config_lines[45]: "constant c_ff_fricton 0.500000"
config_lines[46]: "constant c_ff_engine 0.190000"
config_lines[47]: "constant c_ff_surface 0.150000"
config_lines[48]: "constant c_ff_bumps 1.000000"
config_lines[49]: "constant c_ff_collis 1.000000"
With this being set: "constant c_ff_hi_spd 2.000000" everything feels much better. I find I've got to hold the wheel going bends or it returns to centre, much like a spring force.
Again, tyvm for the help.
ps. maybe the devs could allow the 'c_ff_hi_spd' to go up to a value of two or greater in the UI itself. Instead of having to edit the controls.sii file. Just a thought.

Re: T500rs Forcefeedback - No High Speed Centering Force
I have almost the same problem with a Fanatec.
However, every game at high speeds on the steering wheel is very "spongy".
In reality, the power steering controls it in such a way that everything is easier in the low speed range & the faster you drive, the more effort you need to avoid "tearing" the vehicle - so far this has never been a game for me, but I will Definitely try out the above settings - Greetings from Germany, Mike

Unfortunately, there is nothing I can do because I am not familiar with such things as rewriting files. I am actually only a user and in real life also a driver

Hi Mike.
Goto: "Documents\American Truck Simulator\profiles\xxxxxxxxxxx".
In that folder look for "controls.sii" file and choose to open it with notepad.
Look for the line: constant c_ff_hi_spd 1.000000.
Change the 1 to a 2 like below.
constant c_ff_hi_spd 2.000000
Save the file and close it. Now load ATS and drive.

You're welcome Paulie,
I'll keep you updated in the case some new idea come by that could improve it for you, but it's good you find already better settings.

Thank you very much for the quick answer, I'll try to see if I can do something like that - don't have a notepad & don't want to "destroy" anything.
