Yeah but that will result in an error or even a crash to desktop if the user does not have the item needed, therefore would require a separate addon mod for each item if made properly.

nothing will happen if you add the def files in one addon, there is no need for multiple ones because of the way how SCS has implemented it, the only requirement is to not add the model into the mod but leave in the base.scs

If a def file is present for an addon that the user does not have it will result in the accessory being selectable in the truck customization scene and if selected will cause a crash to desktop due to a missing model descriptor.

try it and you will see it wont happen with steam inventory items, at least the one SCS didnt remove (Christmas Trees)

I thought that even though they are part of base.scs and def.scs respectively, only users that own an item in their Steam inventory actually have its files present. It just wouldn't make sense if the models exist for everyone despite not owning the item.

The base and def files are the same for everyone. Code is used to determine whether the user owns them and has them available.
