You didn't do anything wrong, I have the same "issue". Sometimes there's a preview of the trailer and sometimes there's just a random picture (I had the green box in the past too, don't know what made it change to the generic picture that I have now).
I even sometimes have a bug where I see the generic picture overlayed over the trailer preview...
I don't know how to fix that or even how to influence this aspect of the game in any way.
But so far it didn't cause any crash, only this relatively minor inconvenience.

That sounds like a mod conflict. Do you guys use any trailer repaint packs? Sometimes some less scrupulous repainters include things that have no business being in a repaint pack.

@mackintosh thanks for your help, what kind of files could cause such a conflict ? Is it def-related ? Like 2 mods trying to reskin the same thing ?
As I said I don't have the green box with the questionmark anymore... my issue could just be rlated to the game-engine being "overwhelmed" and not rendering things properly.

Could be any number of things tbh, but yes, it's usually an errant def. The most recent repaint pack I had this issue with was Kriistof's Krone AI traffic add-on. No idea what specifically caused the issue there, as he locks his mods.

Will this difference fade out after some more in-game hours?

No it won´t. You need to change the unit_reward_per_km in the custom cargoes that Arnook added (in def/cargo)

When I activate this mod in 1.40, game crashes in cargo selection map. Any idea why?

@Arnook Thanks for the info. Game version 1.40. Mabey it has something to do with the recent gameupdate. It don't bother me. I was just curious..

@Ruward I will modify the mass attributes of my custom cargos in the next update, I might adjust the reward/km values as well.

I will personally update to 1.40 once the 10 skins are done and check it for myself.
