@yiannis

Sure, why should that overclocking not have an impact on FPS? If it hadn't the game engine
itself would be the limit or maybe the CPU. Have you played with the launch options we've
been talking about earlier here. After some tests with the map combo I run, I have now got
a pretty smooth experience of the game. I might say too, that I've overclocked my GTX1660Ti
almost to the max. And as I don't use NaturaLux, that demands that you should maximize the
mm_max_resource_size to 100 and thereby only get 9 loading buffers, I run with these options,
getting 31 buffers at 32MB each!

Code: Select all

-mm_pool_size 4000 -mm_max_resource_size 32 -mm_max_tmp_buffers_size 1000

these launch options substantially improved my game, much less lag, good FPS overall, also better traffic density! however in cities especially in ATS I get now very often 100% GPU workload and FPS drop to even 20-25 only in some places (this is not coming from high traffic as it happens also with less traffic). I am wondering if increasing maximum pre-rendered frames value would help. as the SCS game are very much CPU dependent and I have an I7 but only 4770 at 3.4 Ghz so I set the pre-rendered frames to 1 leaving more job for my GPU (GTX 1060).
let me ask you how you usually play with the maximum pre-rendered frames value?

@cipinho

I run NPI with pre-rendered frames set to 6 and the above launch options
and with an almost maxed overclocking of my GTX1660Ti.

Quick question about the pre-rendered frames, is this something you set in the config.cfg or profile?

thanks Bengan, I remember it did not work well for me with 6 but I will try again! I see you have an almost similar CPU ;)
Yaumeister, this is something to set in Nvidia Inspector and perhaps can be found also in Nvidia control panel. normally is set on automatic, but we try to squeeze our system as much as possible for best results at the best quality ;)

@cipinho

Just a question to update the database in my mind. You always had a Frame Rate Limit set to 40
before, have you any limit set now?

Thanks for the info, I don't see an equivalent option in Linux but good to know.

@yaumeister

Right, you are on Linux I remember now! Does there exist ANYTHING like
Nvidia Profile Inspector there, a tool to play with Nvidia driver parameters,
not available through Nvidias Control Panel?

NCP on Linux ? the nvidia drivers are so castrated in regards to the GUI it is laughable

Windows is the only OS that has such diverse option to change settings at, Linux user could dream of, wish nvidia would start porting the drivers 1:1 at least in regards to options

and NCP doesnt exist for Linux, it is Nvidia X-Server Settings

As mentioned above, Linux don't get anything fancy compared to Windows.

On the plus side, the OS isn't as demanding as Windows, so technically more resources are available for the game instead.

There are many Windows vs Linux articles, but here's a recent one for those interested:
