Physics in v1.35

#1 Post by knox_xss » 07 Oct 2019 09:36

Hello guys!
Again me.

Physics SCS guys, especially Oscar, please pay attention to this topic.

Now I want to draw your attention to the reasons for the collision of the trailer with the rear fender of the truck (bug ID: 99556). Omit the fact that the rear fenders on some trucks are too lifted up.

The problem is that the mass of the trailer and the mass of the cargo push the trailer down through the fifth wheel. It shouldn't be like that. The bottom surface of the trailer fits snugly on the fifth wheel plate and can no longer push it down. I'm talking about an ordinary fifth wheel, not a special hydraulically lifted on.

In reality, we have this...

The 1st - unloaded, 2nd - loaded.
1. [ external image ] 2. [ external image ]

Pay attention to two things:
  1. The gap between the bottom surface of the trailer and the rear fender of the truck - the gap is constant!
  2. How cargo weight affects truck (and trailer) suspension.

In the game, we have exactly the opposite...

The 1st - before loading a cargo, 2nd - directly after loading.
1. [ external image ] 2. [ external image ]

The 3rd - before unloading a cargo, 4th - directly after unloading.
3. [ external image ] 4. [ external image ]

Pay attention to the same two things (cargo weight is 22 t):
  1. The gap between the bottom surface of the trailer and the rear fender of the truck - the gap is NOT constant, it is different!
  2. Cargo weight DOES NOT affect truck (and probably also the trailer) suspension (in statics)!

I remember in previous versions of the game, the mass of the cargo had a noticeable effect on the suspension of the truck in static. Of course, "Fix one thing and break another" is usual practice now. ;) And now these two things (gap between trailer and fender, and suspension affect) could be a called a bugs but... who knows, may be it is a part of so called "optimizations".

Thank you for your attention!

in rl the weight doesent affect the height. The Air in the suspension settle's the height.

thats why we need the adjustable rear suspension to hook the trailer, with this we also get the part where the truck auto adjusts the hight of the back depending on load so that the trailer is always horizontal to the ground and not sloped to the cab

Interesting. Didn't actually notice this happening; it definitely shouldn't but this may be a by-product of how we simulate the fifth wheel due to the lack of (trailer) body flex. Will check anyway.
What I say is mostly accurate.

Going on work trips to bring you guys new trucks, trailers... and maybe more?

Don't check out my Steam Workshop mods because they are not updated anymore:

Yes, adjustable suspension height would add quite lot of realism, as it's also big part of job in real life; we have do it it every time when attach/remove trailer.

When this issue will be fixed, please? Because of this, all curtain/reefer trailers are lower (after coupling) than truck cabins, which unfortunately gives collision between rear fenders and the trailer :?

Nobody cares, really?

Unfortunately, this bug is not fixed until now (v1.41).
