It isn't like SCS would have sold trucks anyways; doubt manufacturers would have agreed. Licensed trucks in this game represent an interactive advertisement for their manufacturers. Common sense, that is. Though even paid tuning packs feel okay. Nobody insisted for sure everything should be given out for free like it's a college camp party :D
this is nonsense, at the end SCS decides how the trucks will be delivered, if they want to sell them as DLCs, they can do it, because that way they would get the money invested into it back, this has nothing to do with licenses because the Schwarzmüller and Krone trailers could also have been given for free

it is only SCS decision that trucks are free updates to the game because they are a main part of it, it has nothing to do with advertisements or anything because the chance that a company buys a truck because he saws it in the game is 0%, those people get their infos from more serious sources, self test drives or because they are sworn to one manufacturer

Yet they wouldn't have done that in order not to damage their reputation to a point they need to explain themselves left and right, such things can backfire seriously. Say, the base game has 7 brands, each brand has 1 truck model granted to the player for free, the rest remain paid.

Sounds like nonsense too. Once you rush decisions, will take you twice the time and resources you invested to regain the trust in your customers. I don't pretend to have been a brand manager/company director or something, though @Some truck driver seems like having years of expertise in that field. SCS chose this model of content distribution for good reason. Balance or nothing.

We already have studios that prefer to sell their shallow products in small pieces and utilise shady practices, I don't need that to happen to this company too. You may do too.

they only choose it because with trucks you dont have the variety as with cars, if we had trucks en mass like cars every truck, or ever 5 truck would be bundled and soled as a DLC, has nothing to do with reputation or anything, it was just SCS decision to say trucks are our main content and we will add them for free

believe me, would EA do this you would only get 1 truck and the rest would be a DLC or lootboxes

Carl, you obviously never saw what Dovetail or Tripwire in specific, do to its catalogue, can't speak about Electronic Farts - long lost me as a consumer (Crysis, 2007). You go full commercial on your customer base, you won't win the hearts of everyone except few brainwashed anti-consumer individuals.

Useless to argue about two worlds anymore. Too much "if's". Better hope trends won't steal SCS Software's independency soon.

Why does everyone use the EA example as a case study for DLC. Use Paradox Intereactive's DLC policy. They are much more similar to SCS in that they release a base game and then enhance it with DLC. Only difference is that PDX also decides to hide new features behind a paywall as well and compatability between 20 different dlcs is probably causing more trouble than its worth.

SCS has the right idea: free trucks, gameplay mechanics, base map reworks/ Map DLC, special cargo DLC, cosmetic DLC. Perfect. You always know exactly what you are getting. (I wouldn't mind a Classic Trucks DLC either).

Meanwhile, if they took the PDX approach:
- Border checkpoints would be unique to BtBS DLC and when RttBS comes out, it will cause massive crashes because they forgot to add compatibility to people without BtBS DLC.
- Map revamps will be paired up with existing map DLCs. Rant a revamped Switzerland? Make sure you buy the Western Balkans DLC.
- The voice navigation would be part of the Bulgarian Paintjobs DLC.

EA isn't used as a case study, it is used as the worst way SCS could do it

Which is a case study. Case studies can be good and bad examples.

We'll they're not allowed to test cosmetics on animals any more, so they're testing em on vehicles now.
