Iberia Discussion
Re: Iberia Discussion
ProMods was a must have... let's say 2-3 years ago (and earlier) now, there are only two regions that I may use promods for, it's Going East (mostly Poland) and England. Apart from that, there is no need for PM anymore. Unless you are driving... 50-80k km a month, then you may lack of new roads indeed.
Re: Iberia Discussion
Why is it overrated? It's free, made by people in their free time and increases quality and immersion by an amount SCS can only dream of.
So I'm wondering where the overrated part is for you ?
You can say you dont use it or dont see a need to use it, but calling it overrated is a step too far in my opinion.

Re: Iberia Discussion
Not yet ventured into Iberia, but my current job takes me into Cludad Real so, it won't be long before I do, looking forward to seeing some of Spain for the first time.
I've never used map mods in either ETS 2 or ATS and don't plan too either. Saying that I generally don't use any mods at all.

Re: Iberia Discussion
I bought ETS2 in january 2013 but skipped it shortly after
Promods got me started again with ETS2
Imagine back in the old days where only had the base map and every city was basically the same bunch of prefabs, shops and buildings
I put the mod to rest to be able to do WoTr jobs but also participate in OB and DLC release events
For ATS I have created a Promods profile to do a little driving i Canada
I have never had severe problems with the mod since I started with the ETS2 map mod in 2014

Re: Iberia Discussion
I have a clean, modless profile and I have a profile with ProMods.
Some things PM have done very good, other things SCS have done very good.
But there have been instances where people want old, very old, outdated stuff back, that has been done by ProMods. Instead of the new, good looking SCS stuff.
ProMods on the other hand does not have to be as strict as SCS with PC specs, when doing stuff.

Re: Iberia Discussion
Yes the mod is demanding and can be very demanding hardware wise at places
Promods usually tries to build around SCS release as a start and discard old material, by time more of SCS material can be replaced

Re: Iberia Discussion
I think SCS and ProMods have very different design philosophies. ProMods will recreate signage and distance markers to a fault; it ruins immersion when a sign points to a city that can't physically exist, or when a distance marker says 100km but in-game it's 40km. SCS bends the world to their 1:19/1:20 scale and the immersion is better for it. But ProMods excels at many things SCS does not, such as density, city environments, etc. So I prefer to have a Vanilla profile where I do most of my driving, and a ProMods profile where I only stick to ProMods areas (like the UK or Middle East or Canada), so that I'm not going back and forth between two different design philosophies which is jarring. Similar to going from RttBS to Hungary in Vanilla.
Even between ATS and ETS2, SCS has different design philosophies for signage. ETS2 will inexplicably cross off city names with a red line or X or block them with a black tarp, which kills immersion. ATS doesn't do that, it leaves the signs untouched and trusts that the player is smart enough to understand that they can't go that way yet. If SCS started using the ATS signage method in ETS2 or vice versa it would be similarly jarring.

Re: Iberia Discussion
Hmm how can it be 40 km in game if your truck says you have driven 100 km after you saw the 100 km sign?
But If the location has moved 60 km towaards the city and the truck has in fact driven 40 km it poses a problem

Re: Iberia Discussion
@plykkegaard I mean that a road sign will read "100km to X city", but your GPS has a destination of X city and it says 40km.
