Re: SSAO Discussion
only raytracing can solve this, Screen Space says it all, you will find that in every game, reflections disappearing because the source of it is outside the screen/players view, so the algorithm has nothing to go by and just "kills" the effects for the disappearing object

Re: SSAO Discussion
I wonder if dynamic shadows are coming
but SSAO is also good!

Re: SSAO Discussion
Yes. This was explained at blog post:Vinnie Terranova wrote: ↑08 Jul 2020 19:38 I think that something is quite wrong with SSAO in ATS... Take a look at this video of the Viewpoint Feature. Especially take a close look to the left side of the screen, as the truck slowly drives to the end of the prefab (from 0:55 till 1:11): You will notice that at the left side of the screen the SSAO effect disappears. It looks like fuel pump, and chairs are disappearing...
I think this has something to do with the fact that SCS uses Screen Space for calculating the amount of ambient occlusion: as there is less 3D information available at the sides (and top and border) of the screen, this will lead to an artifact. In this case the artifact is that ambient occlusion disappears at the sides (and top/border) of the screen, due to miscalculation of the amount of ambient occlusion.
"Instead of baking static information (which would also take a lot of time and storage space given the scale of our world map), we want to compute it on the fly, in run-time. That way we can compute it also for interaction with vehicles, opening bridges, animated objects, and so on. There is a catch though. For such a computation approach, we only have data that are visible on the screen (recall "screen space"), so once some part of the game world gets out of the visible frame, it can't be used for occlusion evaluation. This limitation creates various artifacts such as disappearing occlusion on a wall originally caused by an object that just got behind the edge of the screen and thus became invisible not just for you but also for the algorithm, so it ceased to contribute to occlusion computation".
Re: SSAO Discussion
Dynamic as in "cast by headlights"? Kinda doubt it. We don't even have proper shadows in the mirrors "for performance reasons", and that's just low-res viewports. Adding more light sources able to cast shadows? Not gonna happen.
Re: SSAO Discussion
Hi guys,
Today I found out that SSAO affects my fps - a lot.
My specs are: AMD 3700X, Nvidia GTX 1660 super, 16 GB RAM, 144 Hz monitor
All graphics option Ultra and high - lowest fps 55, usually 72fps (in new mexico).
Today, when I drove at washington, some area my fps is 55, I turned off SSAO and the fps jumped to 72.
The thing is turning off SSAO makes the screen a little too bright. Is there any way around it?

Re: SSAO Discussion
SSAO creates extra shadows, so it's normal that to turn it off makes the whole scene looks brighter.
And the impact of SSAO on FPS is directly proportional to the rendering resolution you had configured. Not only the real resolution of your monitor, but also the fact that you could be applying super-scaling to the image to try to had a bit of AA effect.

Re: SSAO Discussion
Interestingly enough, and may be off-topic, but a few days ago I stumbled upon a YT vid that explains about how to set up your AMD graphics card.
I have an R9 280 3Gb which I did buy 2nd-hand but it's a great GPU imho.
So in short, it mentions to disable both SSAO and SMAA in-game and let the GPU override any of those settings and do it all.
The result was the game looking just as good if not better, plus a gain of some 20fps.

If you suck at playing the trumpet, that's probably why.
