switch to unity or unreal will make mod creation even harder

The unreal engine is fully modable

so is every other engine if you look for the right tools but for all those engines it is the same schtick, you need the SDK of the engine on your PC just to make mods, and then write plugins in Unreal case, shouldnt be any different for Unity

there is nothing with ziping up your creates stuff, write a few plain text lines of code and chuck it into a folder that is explicitly there to load mods, it is way more complex

gone are the days of easy to do edits with a text editor alone, we already saw it with FMod that the game got a bit less mod friendly, at least for sound mods

Sorry it sounds like you don't know much about the unreal engine?
Not that it matters as SCS has stated several times it does not fit the bill

You are definitely not wrong and that is all I'm going to say on that.

eg. wishful thinking and goodbye to Assettocorsa modders moving over to the newer 'Competizione' variant.
That has no modders period, not unless you include skins. No new cars or tracks at all.

I could build a track for AC, but when ACC went the UE4 route, that ended quickly for me and many other track builders too.
Plus with UE4, you get little to no dev support, unless you throw a lot of money their way.
Different licence terms(money), means different levels of support.

I dunno why the spelling errors in the quoted thread titles for this page of the thread still haven't been corrected, as well as the usage of lower case. But I personally think the graphics for ETS2/ATS are more than acceptable as they are. Is the fanbase not an obvious indication of the game's acceptability??

Have a look at Train simulator 2021 in comparison, and you'll notice an obvious example of primitive looking visuals. I can only dream of similar dynamics/visuals being present in TS.

Edit: UE(4/5) is trash. It is too demanding, and overrated. It is equivalent to paying $100 for a sandwich in a fancy restaurant, just because one can't be bothered walking 25 metres to the adjacent option that is much cheaper. I hope SCS never goes this way of using UE for any of their future games.

(Typo corrected)

As a game development student with some experience with Unreal Engine, i don't think the use of a generalist engine would make a better product for a truck simulator. There are few examples of great games outside the shooter/adventure genre using UE4.

It's not much of an alternative to ETS2 but the stuff you said... DAMN... LOL.

UE, CryEngine or Unity are as trash as the developer are, if they cant work with it it will look like it
